A freshman offensive lineman was shot at an off-campus party early Sunday morning.

Sheldon Watts was in critical condition at a Tucson hospital after being shot around 2 a.m. at an east side home, said Sgt. Marco Barboa, a Tucson police spokesman.

Investigators say a disagreement occurred between some partygoers inside the house and continued outside, where someone started firing gunshots, Barboa said.

Detectives say they have no indication that Watts was involved in the argument.

Watts was at the party with three other redshirt players, who police aren't identifying. Watts, an offensive lineman from Hightower High School in Fort Bend County, Texas, was among the 20 high school players in the initial recruiting class unveiled by Arizona coach Mike Stoops in February. He was one of seven Houston-area recruits to sign with the Wildcats, a profile of Watts on the team's Web site said.

An Arizona recruit from Texas died earlier this year after collapsing during a voluntary conditioning session. McCollins Umeh, an 18-year-old defensive end, died in June from an enlarged heart.
