Arizona Senate meeting Tuesday to discuss Maricopa County election audit

Top Republicans in the Arizona Senate are meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the ongoing audit of Maricopa County's election results.
Senate leaders had invited county officials to attend, but county leaders have made clear they do not plan to participate, having issued a blistering rebuke to accusations by GOP senators that they deleted and mishandled election materials.
Senate President Karen Fann, R-Prescott, invited county officials to the meeting with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Warren Petersen, R-Gilbert, and Senate liaison Ken Bennett to discuss the claims first outlined in a public letter last week.
However, the Senate backed off threats to issue subpoenas that would require county officials to appear. The county responded to the allegations Monday in writing.
Fann said Monday afternoon that she had just received the county's letter and that Senate leadership will review it and respond at the Tuesday meeting, which will be live streamed.
The Senate has fought the county for months to obtain all the ballots cast by Maricopa County voters in the last general election. But the Senate?s letter not only reignited tensions between the two entities but also underscored mounting concerns about whether the firms the Senate has hired for the unprecedented process are even capable of the job.
?I just want to make it clear, I will not be responding to any more requests from this sham process,? Chairman Jack Sellers said at a meeting of the board on Monday. ?Finish what you?re calling an audit and be ready to defend your report in a court of law. We all look forward to it.?
The hand recount of ballots began April 23 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, but had only counted an estimated 500,000 as of May 14, which is when contractors originally expected to finish up. The audit now is expected to continue into the summer.

Arizona auditors now say voter data is intact, after sparking GOP feud

Auditors hired by the Arizona state Senate backtracked Tuesday from claims that a key database had been deleted from Maricopa County's elections servers -- admitting in a hearing held by the Senate Republicans overseeing the audit that the data is intact and they'd been looking the wrong way...
But, Maricopa County officials explained and auditors acknowledged Tuesday, those conducting the audit had made a technical mistake and the database was never deleted...
RAID arrays, used in enterprise servers, are designed for redundancy: They split data among multiple hard drives in a way that allows the data stored on those drives to be maintained and automatically reconstructed in the event that a drive within the array fails.
However, RAID arrays can be constructed in a number of different ways, and Cotton said auditors did not know which construction Maricopa County had used -- which would have left them unable to fully access the contents of the server...

I listened to the Senate hearing this afternoon. What CNN stated is false, surprise surprise. What the auditor said was the data WAS deleted, but that they were able to successfully recovery it fully and that the issue is moot from there audit viewpoint as they now have the data. Who deleted it and when is still an open question, and that is certainly destruction of evidence and in violation of AZ election law. Doubt it will be pursued, but the reality is completely different than CNN claims.
