This is a game where you have to separate your brain from your heart...the key of this game is one person....Steelman the Army qb...he has been out with a knee and ankle problem..came back for their last game with Temple..and 2 plays later was out again....is he 100%...he is playing today..no way will he be sitting..the question is will he be effective...he is their 2nd leading rusher 583 yds and 11 td's...he can also pass the ball...him keeping the ball on the options changes the entire defensive schemes of the other teams... his replacements are bad..Jenkins can run a little but cannot throw..his replacement showed some spark but was ineffective...Navy's rush defense is pretty bad but recently has improved...they will let the Army Qb's keep the ball and attack the backs...Navy's qb is proctor and he can throw a little...both teams have solid rb's..Army's Maples is just 20 yds shy of 1,000...Army is 1st and navy 4th in rushing...the 1st team to really attack Armys rush defense by running the ball was Temple a few weeks ago..Pierce and Brown rushed for 157 and 133 yds...think navy will do that also...but Army could do almost the same damage...Army's 2nd biggest problem today is "they shoot themselves in the foot"...Fumbles and turnovers...lyr Steelman at the 1 lost a fumble and navy scored...they had 32 fumbles this yr...Navy the past 2 yrs ranks on top of fewest turnovers..
It;s been 9 straight wins for Navy....for the 1st time in a long time Navy is down..so the cry is " if there ever was a year to break this streak its this year...Army has won 3 games and Navy 4...Army was beating AF and Rutgers until fumbles and turnovers changed the game....Navy has a better OL and DL...WR's only because they get a few passes thrown their way...QB edge has to go Navy because Steelman is questionable..RB's Army gets the edge,LB's also..DB's are about even...Special teams....Navy edge but both are bad.. Army's Carlton has missed 5 xpts and made 3 Fg's all year..Navy's Teague has missed 4 xpts and missed 4 Fg's.Both teams punting is bad...slight edge to navy...
Army has played 19 freshman this year...with all this said I have to go against my heart and take Navy-7....I'm thinking Steelman is not 100% and because of that Navy gets a big advantage...
Another leaning factor is that someone I know who lives 1 mile from the base and is Army's biggest supporter, season tickets, gives $,etc, etc predicted Navy wins by 2 td's...he knows everything about every player,coach,etc...a living Wilkapedia of army football...he's a homer and always predicts Army will win...but he thinks Navy overall is the better team..and that's enough for me..he did say "he has taken Army the past 9 years and lost so maybe if he flips he prediction Army wins..."
The big news is Army gets two new mules, Ranger III and Stryker..Thur nite at the Point the two new Mules were commissioned at the stadium...Over 4,000 cadets cheered their induction..both old Mules were relieved of their service...before the new Mules left both took a huge dump on the 40 yd line...a cadet ran out on the field with a golden navy shovel and a golden navy bucket..It was the "Mules 1st official act as mascots.":mj07:
Todays game is in DC...last week in our local paper there was an article about the Point..Last tuesday all the seniors got their assignments..Erzinger, Armys top LB is going to the Armour Division,Jenkins to the infantry,etc..Navy had theirs too... and qb Proctor is going to be a flight officer..FB Teich a navy seal, etc
There are no winners and losers today....all these kids are winners....there is no bowl game,no BCS,No Penn St,no who is moving to what conference...opps Navy is moving...its about football played for their there academies and pride and alumni....for their country....
Navy -7 over Army **
But if the Black nites win I'll feel good even though i lost some monopoly money...GL
