Here?s something that just about all of us ? Republicans or Democrats, liberals or conservatives, folks of any race, religion or color ? should agree on: You?ve got to love the spirit of the Army football team. That?s true even if you?re not a football fan or you?re a Navy diehard and you just have to root for the Midshipmen in America?s biggest college football game, the Dec. 11 Army-Navy game.

In a ?me, me, me? world of instant gratification, the Black Knights exemplify something that?s all too rare during these days of petulant athletes, self-absorbed entertainers and huckster influencers: teamwork. The Army football team ? a diverse bunch of Americans from Alabama to Hawaii led by coach Jeff Monken ? does something our politicians are rarely able to do: come together for a common goal.

I?ve watched every televised game, from the blowout of Georgia State to the nail-biting overtime thriller win over Air Force.

You know what?

So many cadets contribute to Army?s ball-control, run-first offense that?s dependent on precision teamwork and not flashy star power, I had to look up the names of some key Army players to be sure they were who I thought they were. That is because I know them more for their accomplishments than their hype.

There?s quarterback Christian Anderson, who?s completed as many passes, 21, this season as some college quarterbacks complete in one game, but is tied for the team lead in touchdowns when you combine his passing and rushing. His co-TD leader is the running back who at Army has never ? that?s never ? lost a yard on a run, the steamrolling fullback Jakobi Buchanan.

But of course, Army football isn?t just about what happens on the 100-yard field ? a field that, for home games, sits in one of the nation?s most picturesque settings, West Point?s Michie Stadium, overlooking the Hudson River.

It?s also about the teamwork on the sidelines and in the stands from the cadets and cheerleaders, who, like the football players, are the future military leaders who?ve made a commitment to defend us.

Other big-time colleges may have drunken fans who paint their bare chests. Army has cadets in uniform who prove they?re ready for on-field combat if called on by doing push-ups after scores.

Other big-time colleges may have cheerleaders who tumble, jump and toss one another sky-high. Army has cheerleaders ? called the Rabble Rousers ? who can do all that and show they?re more than ready to run, pass and block if called on by doing pushups after scores.

WEST POINT ? Army has faced eight teams who are bowl-eligible and six who finished first or second in their respective leagues. That includes a Wake Forest team that is ranked No. 18 and headed for the ACC title game and a Wisconsin team that was No. 18 before its upset loss to Minnesota that dropped the Badgers out of the Big Ten final.

With all that, Army head coach Jeff Monken believes the Dec. 11 game against Navy is the toughest game on the schedule.

?It?s just the intensity of each play, the intensity of the rivalry,?? said Monken during his weekly press conference. This will be his eighth game against Navy, plus he was an assistant with the Midshipmen for six against the Black Knights.

?(I know) how hard that their team will be playing against us, and I hope that we?ll play really, really hard against them as well because it?s such an emotional game and because the Commander-in-Chief?s trophy is on the line. ? (I know) how bad these two teams want to beat each other.

?It's difficult to prepare for because they know us so well. It?s difficult to prepare because of the personnel. It is so evenly matched. We almost mirror each other at each of the positions.

?It seems like every year every single play from the opening kickoff to the end feels like the whole game is hanging in the balance ? that's intense, more intense than most games, for sure.??

Monken wasn?t very pleased with his defense?s inability to track down elusive Liberty quarterback Malik Willis, likely a top QB selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. Two days later, though, Monken could at least chuckle about it, aided by the fact Army prevailed 31-16.

2 local writers that I know wrote this for the Times herald newspaper . I just pasted it . Will brake down game later . Think Army wins and covers but both Commandments of both Academies are very upset with the Army cadets who broke the truce and kidnapped the wrong Navy Goat. Army had the goat returned and had their vet make sure the kidnapped Goat was returned healthy . The Goat taken from the Maryland farm with all the former Navy goats retired is back with is buddies grazing in the field. I wonder if the Navy Goat taken about 10-15 years ago that was dyed pink has its normal colors back To me that was the greatest. Army before they enter the Philadelphia stadium with the kidnapped pink Navy goat. Then came the players with the US flag and then the football team team.. There have been so many pranks that these schools did to each other but a few years back Army did go to far tying up and taping some Navy Midshipman ..thats when the peace treaty was made.
All 3 academies have 6 soldiers that interchange for one year at each others schools. . The navy and Air Force transfer students stay near the Thayer hotel near the bowling alley They get razed all year but no one is allowed to physically touch them They go to classes ,eat with their fellow future officers etc They do it for one year .

Army -7 over Navy *****
The best bet has to be the under these were the last scores of this rivalry 15-0,7-31,17-10-14-13,21-7 10-17,14-13, and 21-17. Both offensives mirror themselves. Although they are a little different they both run the ball 1st Army ranks No 1 in the country in rushing and navy is 7th ot 8th. Monken Army's coach was an asst at navy with Nuematalo under Johnson. A lot has been made about Navy's schedule which had aknost every team they played going to a bowl game. Lost to houston by 8,Cinncy 7,SMU 7 Meanwhile the Black nites fed up on Bucknell, UConn and U mass ... But in this game throw all that out. It means nothing. Navy always seemed to dominate before monken arrived ..
Think Army defense has 8 starters back that shut out Navy last year. Army has a better defense. But Army's qb situation is so much better. Anderson is back at full strength. Army;s 2 backups are almost just as good. Army FB Jacobi has never lost a yard Think about that, Everyone knows he is getting the ball on short yardage. They give it to him and he gains a yard or two. for a 1sr down Its automatic. Then Anderson has in his backfield Robinson or Tyler to hand off too .Both then fly Robinson avgs 9 yds per carry. I think Jabari Law is the better qb but Andrson has played better and beat him out. When other teams bottle neck the inside Anderson flips out to Robinson and he's gone. It makes no difference if your a linebacker from Houston Or Cinncy or Umass or Bucknell You have turned the corner and your gone. Army on defense has Carter who leads the nation in sacks He is 6'5 and 265 and plays OLB and DE . Monken has navy's number and has won 4 of last 5 vs navy.
And if 1st string qb Anderson goes down they bring in Jabari Jemell or Ballard and lose very little . Army has lost 4 OL starters from last year. It doesn't make a difference Its called the " Line Brotherhood " and all they do is rush block and follow their targets. The Right Tackle has one and only one option To hit the Navy Line backer and push him outside. Then the other 4 OL all have assignments and viola . Riley, Jacoboi or who ever rush for 4-5 yds. They wear down teams and think that is what they do today.
Army win by 10-14 points they cannot stop Army's rushing attack and think there defense can slow down the Midshipmen s offense
  1. Navy -Army
. The Navy goat has been returned with no injuries Although the cadets drove to a farm in Annapolis in the middle of the night, kidnapped the wrong Goat who was the designated Goat in 1998 game know the current Goat will be out there today and will be just happy to be eating and grazing some grass because he will be put out to pasture after the Black nite win and cover again
