Started getting flair ups in my big toes this fall once the kids got back into basketball....As soon as I get on the floor and join in, I pay dearly the next couple of days.....

Had it for about 17 years. First seven years were hell but have only one attack since taking allopurinol daily.if you are having attack you must wait it out. Drink as much water as you can.Cherry juice helps prevent attacks not stop them.
Colchinine can stop attack if you take it when you first feel attack occurring.
Purines, too much protein, stress and beer are biggest causes .
Pain of gout attack is worst than anything I have experienced except for bone marrow procedure which is in a world by itself.

I am lucky enough to have never had it but have hears nothing but good things about it as far as searing pain and misery go. I heard jumping jaeks help get the blood moving?

I think that is a picture of a big toe with an ingrown nail on both sides. I have never seen one that bad, and it obviously needs some surgical intervention, IV antibiotics, and a short hospital stay. I can see the pus rolling out of it now after the first scalpel cut!
