What do you know about the place?

I'm heading down next week for the first time.

Any recommendations? Any casino recommendations? Etc...

Honus, when I get home (2am) I shall post some info.... I went there last year and I was amazed how beautiful Aruba is. Hopefully your staying at a resort in the NW coast, some of the nicest beaches in the world.

;)

My family and I went to Aruba in August of this year. The weather was perfect. It only rained twice for about 2-3 minutes, otherwise it was sunny and windy. The place is really windy. I would estimate 20+ mile an hour winds all of the time.

We stayed at the Marriott Ocean Club and we played at the casino there a couple of times. Very small and didn't open until late afternoon ( I think after 6 pm). I really can't offer any more help on the casinos.

All restaurants that we ate at had excellent food. The prices for groceries at the supermarket was kind of expensive and everything is much smaller in size.

If you like lush, tropical beach areas- Aruba is not the place to go. Most of the island is desert like, but the beaches are beautiful.

Enjoy your trip and bring lots of sunscreen. If you have any other questions, post them here and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Count on losing an entire day in the air, both going and returning. It's in the southern Carib, but worth it. My father-in-law has a time share there. They have been going every year for a long time, and they love it. Enjoy... :thumb:

I go every year.. We love it. There are two sportsbooks on the island. The best one is downtown at the Chystal casino. Not vegas but it is still good. Make sure you eat once at el gaucho. The best steak house I have been to. I've been to most!!! Dop yourself a favor rent a jeep for at least 1 day and tour the island on your own. Very nice day that way. Don't take the tour with the group. It's better on your own. Get my email from jack and I will answer any and all ?'s you have been there 10 times now for over 200 days total on that island.

Just got back!

Awesome trip. Thanks to all for the tips.

Great beaches. Great food. Didn't have to be expensive, but there were a few nights that were.

I'll definitely go back.

Interesting set of casinos. Those near the high rises were filled and had high minimums. Those closer to the low rises weren't as busy and had minumums for all levels of play.

Happened to be at a craps table that I will never see again. Nine (9) hard numbers show up within 45-minutes. Everyone on them; some with some major coin. One shooter controlled the dice for 30-minutes. Unbelievable. Two re-fills of quarter chips by the casino (they ran out at the table) during the stint. Big winner wins $7,000 in the hour (wasn't me; not even close). Everyone else (and I mean everyone) wins minimum one grand, some up to 5. I'm standing next to the dealer. He looks over at me and says "you'll never see this again". I think he's right.

Only disappointment was the fact that there was only one poker room on the island. Hold-em games were 10/20; 15/30 and 20/40. Too rich for my blood. And I love playing poker.

Back to the NBA tomorrow. It was nice taking the week off from 'capping as well. Never thought I'd say that.
