I don't think that homer had much to do with Cabrera, it was just an absolutely awful pitch. You can't groove one down the middle like that on 0-2, especially with 2 outs. I think anyone in the Tigers lineup would have crushed that pitch.

Why is it silly? Look, I give Cabrera credit for crushing that pitch, but he's SUPPOSED to crush a pitch like that. It was a mistake pitch, right down the middle on an 0-2 count.

IMO, I think Baker should get as much blame as Cabrera gets credit. It's inexcusable for a pitcher to groove a pitch like that in that situation. Baker clearly missed his spot, and Cabrera hit the mistake. That's all I'm saying.

Totally agree....horrible pitch in an 0-2 count, and a good hitter isn't gonna miss.

I played div 1 baseball , and was starting clean-up hitter for four years. The great players are expected to step up big and hit homers in games like this with pitches like that. Give him his props! If theyhold on and win his blood alcohol level may exceed his average tonight. :mj06:

My original post probably came off more negative than I meant it to. I wasn't trying to discredit Cabrera. I do give him credit for hitting the homer. But like you said, that's a pitch he's supposed to hit.

I'm still trying to figure out how Baker could miss that badly on 0-2. I'm assuming, given the count, he didn't want that pitch to be anywhere near the plate. So it's not like he missed by an inch or two. He missed by a few feet. If Detroit hangs on it will be one of the worst pitches of his career, and one of the biggest homers of Cabrera's career.

Oh, the irony. The pitch that Cabrera just hit out was a hanging slider, which (I believe) was the same pitch Cabrera hit out. Both pitches down the middle.

In other news, why on earth would Leyland put Zach Miner in the game? I don't follow the Tigers, but that guy has always seemed to be a bit of a gascan. I really think the Twins caught a huge break with that move.

And just like that we're tied again. I was just about to post that Nathan should be in to face the heart of the order, but of course he wasn't because that wouldn't be managing "by the book."

Game over. There isn't a single player in the majors who screws me more than Joe Nathan. When I don't bet the Twins, he's unhittable. But when I bet them, he always craps the bed. Always.

Oh well, congrats to Tigers backers. They played their asses off.

Oops. Spoke too soon. Pretty awful of the Tigers to not even get one run there. Nathan was struggling and they had the heart of the order coming up. If they would have scored just one it would have been all but over.

Dodged a bullet, but the Tigers still have the advantage since Nathan should be done and the Tigers BP should still have a few good innings left. It would be an unbelievably lucky W for Twins bettors if they could pull it out.
