Martinez is 7-2 with a 2.34 ERA in 10 career starts against the A's, including his performance in Game One. He is 4-1 in seven lifetime outings at Network Associates Coliseum.
I would caution relying on this specific stat as part of your capping b/c Pedro is not the same Pedro this year. In this specific case, you have to look at his current form, not lifetime.
Don't get me wrong, Pedro is still a very good pitcher, but I think his "lights out" mystique of the past is clouding one too many capper. Not just JohnQ public, but even pro cappers. "He'll step up and show you he's the real Pedro" etc. is what I hear. What evidence have we seen of that this year? Not in two games vs. Oakland this year where Pedro is 0-2. Not in game #1 where Pedro was sloppy (and he threw 130 pitches, the most he has thrown all season).
I'm saying look at the
relevant data, not just historical numbers. This is just one game, forget A's not clinching 8-of-8 opportunities or Pedro's lifetime numbers. This is one game, look at the matchups for this one game!!
