As I die hard Tiger fan I hate to admit you're right but I think you are. Leyland insists on starting Verlander in game 2 when I question whether he should be in the rotation at all. Scherzer has not been so dominant as of late. Cabrera is playing hurt and not up to par as of late. I went to the game August 29 when Scherzer and Colon last faced off and Detroit was lucky to win that one in the bottom of the 9th. It should have been a 4 game sweep for the A's in Detroit. Detroit only won because Balfour was worn out and gave up 5 in the bottom of the 9th. The A's definitely have value at +140 but I'm not sure if I can pull the trigger and cheer against my team in the playoffs.

Verlander got piled on because he hasn't been Verlander, but to think he shouldn't be starting is laughable. You would throw Porcello instead? If 200+ strike outs and a 3.46 era isn't good enough for the Tigers rotation....I guess I'm at a loss.

Tigers fan here and the A's should be favored. The Tigers have been a .500 team since early August.

Cabrera is hurting but he's just flat out in a slump right now. He was hurt before and wasn't swinging at bad pitches like he has the last month. Slumps happen, even to the best hitter in the game.

Sanchez and Scherzer are both better than anything Oakland has but Oakland has a MUCH better bullpen. Benoit was great for a while in the closers role but has been marginal lately. The set up guy Veras has also been a mess of late.

Hard to dismiss the Tigers given their history in the ALDS round but I would be surprised if they are able to take down the A's this year. Simply a hotter team at the moment.

Verlander has bulldogged to a decent ERA but his WHIP is higher than Porcello's and Fister's. He's been far worse than that ERA would suggest this year.
