At the Gate - Friday

Thursday?s nightcap at Belmont Park was an interesting affair if you played the superfecta.

The top four finishers were posted on the toteboard as coming in 8-14-5-10. The only problem was #10 Dontquityourdayjob did not actually finish fourth, he really checked in ninth.

The race was made official with the wrong fourth place finisher, with the superfecta paying $1,073.00.

Close to three minutes passed before someone realized #13 Everybodywantsone was actually the fourth place finisher.

The New York Racing Association suspended paying off the race for 25 minutes while they sorted out the mistake.

The correct order of finish was changed to 8-14-5-13 and returned $800.00.

There was $111,978 in the superfecta pool, and no doubt there were probably a few horseplayers that might have thrown away their tickets after the race was made official.

If you wagered online, you might have seen a sudden infusion of cash that was suddenly taken away a few minutes later.

My top pick ran third in the race, meaning I was not even close with either the correct or the incorrect order of finish.

Here is today's opening race from Belmont Park to get our day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Alw $44,000N1X (1:00 et)

#8 She's Prime 8/1

#2 Lemon Punch 5/1

#1 Banker's Buy 4/1

#3 Submerge 3/1

Analysis: #8 She's Prime exits a NY Stallion series race on the turf where she tracked the early pace from the outside and faded to finish seventh. The race has produced a pair of next out winners including Mother Russia, who won a NY bred stake at the Spa in her next start on Sept. 5. The blinkers come back off today as she makes her third start off a four month layoff. She was competitive at this level early this year on the inner with a couple of seconds going a two turn mile. She has some tactical speed and the one turn mile may suit her running style and her 8/1 ML makes her worth a look here.

#2 Lemon Punch had a tough post last out and made a mild late run to finish fourth and two back was a fast closing second. Both of those starts came on turf and this will be her first start on conventional dirt. Bush adds blinkers to the mix here. Note she has lost at the Alw-1 level ten times but eight of those were against open company, just the last two against state breds. She has more of a turf pedigree but willing to give her one good look on dirt here and we might get to see her price drift up a bit here.

Wagering

WIN: #8 to win at 4/1 or better.

EX: 2,8 / 1,2,3,8

TRI: 2,8 / 1,2,3,8 / 1,2,3,7,8

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 9 Alw $44,000N1X (5:17 et)

#6 Freedom Rings 7/2

#2 Frivolous Buck 6/1

#1 High Cry / #1a Marula 3/1

#5 Wild Awake 2/1

Analysis: #6 Freedom Rings had to steady in traffic on the far turn and after coming six wide in the stretch ran out of steam, checking in seventh. The filly may have been ready for a regression off two hard fought photos two and three back. She came off a nine month layoff with a nose win to break her maiden, then was beaten a head two back at this level. She showed some promise as a two year old, checking in second and beaten just a neck in the Ms Grillo (G3). She bounces back here with a better effort.

#2 Frivolous Buck had some traffic troubles of her own last out and faded to finish tenth. She was a good second in a couple of starts over the turf here three and four back and her form went south in two trips at Saratoga. She has the look of another that figures to bounce back here with a better effort and she is in good hands with the Weaver barn.

Wagering

WIN: #6 to win at 3/1 or better.

EX: 2,6 / 1,2,5,6

TRI: 2,6 / 1,2,5,6 / 1,2,4,5,6

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Belmont Park

R1: #8 She?s Prime 8/1

R4: #8 In Perpetuity 8/1

R8: #4 Princess Maura 10/1

R8: #2 Catty Madeline 15/1

Good luck today!

BEST BET: Double O Uno (2nd race)

First Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Defarge 2. Lemon Punch 3. Submerge

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEFARGE made two moves to wind up third, about three lengths behind 6-5 favorite LEMON PUNCH when they met in a turf route here closing day of the spring-summer meet; may turn the tables on dirt, where she began her career last winter and showed some promise. SUBMERGE was finished early first time out in eight months with front bandages on; stakes-placed filly may show more stretching out.

Second Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Double O Uno 2. Rein King 3. On Vacation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DOUBLE O UNO rallied into the stretch and finished evenly in debut, a key race won by Discreetly Mine, subsequently a tough-trip second in the Futurity; runner-up returned to graduate by seven lengths. REIN KING showed good early speed in both sprints at Saratoga, breaking alertly each time; will be in the thick of this along the inside. ON VACATION showed improved speed in blinkers, dueling with the eventual $4.30 winner through moderate fractions in an off-the-turf route; second and fourth finishers came back to win.

Third Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Vaughndidit 2. Red Kettle 3. American Land

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take your pick among VAUGHNDIDIT, RED KETTLE and AMERICAN LAND, a trio of New York-bred fillies dropping from maiden special-weights and switching from turf to dirt. Vaughndidit's trainer, Rick Dutrow, has done exceptionally well with this surface switch, and she went well for second in an off-the-turfer here in June, so she gets the call. Among the others, LYRICAL BOBCAT has shown improvement while trading decisions with twice-beaten favorite FIRST FLUTE recently, and today's longer distance may help.

Fourth Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Pearly Blue 2. Lisa's Kitten 3. Straight A Student

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PEARLY BLUE was in traffic on the turn and beat half the field first time out; dam Western Ransom was a graded stakes winner on turf, and is a half-sister to Red Letter Day, winner of last Sunday's Lonesome Glory over the jumps here. LISA'S KITTEN had a tough setup rating in hand as Tapitsfly wired the P.G. Johnson through easy fractions, and is back with maidens; mate DEANAALLEN'SKITTEN has trained well on turf and dirt. STRAIGHT A STUDENT improved markedly when stretched out and placed on grass, finishing evenly after prompting the pace.

Fifth Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Gold Trippi 2. Ravalo 3. Starforaday

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overnight stakes sprint features a couple of suspect speed horses, so maybe a closer like GOLD TRIPPI is the way to go here; drops out of a stumbling start in the Forego, won with a triple-digit Beyer off a similar turnback here last fall. RAVALO may get the garden spot sitting just off SONGSTER, who has run twice since wiring the '07 Bold Ruler, and ACCREDIT, who is 5 for 5 on wet tracks but only 1 for 10 when it's fast; high-percentage winner. STARFORADAY enters in raging form after two last-to-first triumphs at the Spa. LUCKY ISLAND has won previously when fresh, but was never the same after two graded stakes wins at Belmont's '08 spring-summer meet.

Sixth Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Of All Times 2. Matt's a Giant 3. Fly Dorcego

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have to go back 369 days, but OF ALL TIMES is capable of beating this field off his six-furlong sprint on the inner course last September, and he ran similarly well under the same conditions three months earlier; useful tightener in sloppy off-the-turfer. MATT'S A GIANT chased the quick Man of Danger throughout, and held second gamely at Monmouth last out; third finisher returned to run a close second for $25K here last week. FLY DORCEGO posted his last two victories (in '08) when fresh; takes a two-level class drop.

Seventh Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Blazing Dynamo 2. Big Al 3. New York Holiday

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's give BLAZING DYNAMO the benefit of the doubt for a lackluster effort as the lukewarm favorite first time in this condition; he didn't get much pace to run at, and much prefers a firm turf course. BIG AL typically produces a Beyer in the mid 80s that puts him in the mix; altered course midstretch and nipped UNACCOUNTABLE for second last out. NEW YORK HOLIDAY has improved steadily with each passing start on grass; steps up after a solid finish to win sloppy N2L route going away.

Eighth Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Mohegan Sky 2. Acquired Cat 3. Exonerated

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MOHEGAN SKY was off slow and rallied to finish fourth vs. males in an overnight stake last out, and gets some class relief dropping into an optional claimer; mate KARAKORUM ELEKTRA drifted out while giving way in the same race, should appreciate getting back to Belmont turf, where she is 5 for 11. ACQUIRED CAT has won two of three starts since claimed here in May, beating several of these in the process; capable of setting or stalking the pace. EXONERATED has finished a close second in both starts for Steve Klesaris; has won this course and distance when turned back from a longer race.

Ninth Race

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Wild Awake 2. High Cry 3. Frivolous Buck

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WILD AWAKE steadied on the turn, finished evenly behind multiple N.Y. Stallion winner Mother Russia as the favorite at Saratoga; second best all three starts on Belmont turf, must run down HIGH CRY. The latter had clear leads at the stretch call in both Spa starts but couldn't close the deal. FRIVOLOUS BUCK has had a succession of outside posts, but now finds herself on the rail; figures close off several performances this year.

Through the binocs

FIRST RACE: Not much of a contest in this grass dash. Liknothinueverseen, 82-1, gunned to daylight lead under Rudy Rodriguez, chased by 5-1 Close to the Vest, winner of two turf sprints from his prior four starts for Rich Schosberg. Close to the Vest, Jorge Chavez up, hooked Liknothinueverseen heading into turn, opened up turning for home and coasted to wire. No one else did much running.

SECOND RACE: Turaath, winless in four starts since breaking his maiden last Nov. for Dan Peitz, was dropping into 25G claimer for first time, favored at 3-5 under Mike Luzzi. Around turn, he rallied wide to go after dueling longshots Forest King and Fast Draw, opened daylight top of stretch, then 5-1 Jazz Hands, Eibar Coa up, made his late bid. As those two battled through final furlong, Jazz Hands drifted in a bit, then Turaath ducked out to bump him in deep stretch. Turaath outfinished Jazz Hands, but stewards had little choice but to reverse the order of finish.

THIRD RACE: Can't remember last time Mike Luzzi rode back-to-back odds-on favorites. Here, in mile-and-sixteenth overnight stakes for NY-bred fillies and mares, Weathered was 3-5 back vs. state-breds for Karl Grusmark after running in Grade 1 Go for Wand and Personal Ensign at Old Spa. She tracked pace set by 21-1 Doodlin while well in hand under the Luzzman, launched her bid around the turn in tandem with 5-1 My Dinah, Jose Espinoza up, to her outside. My Dinah stuck her head in front turning for home, then Weathered came back at her top of lane, and those two battled down stretch with Weathered clawing clear in final yards.

FOURTH RACE: Dr Paula Moynahan, 3-1 stretching out to mile-and-sixteenth over Widener course after sprinting on turf her first two starts, took lead mid-stretch under Alan Garcia, repulsed bid from Shesa Bud Girl splitting horses to her inside, then was joined by 2-1 favorite Love for a Price rallying outside under Eibar Coa. Love for a Price, noted bridesmaid after finishing in-money 8-of-11 starts without winning for Keith O'Brien, clawed to lead in final yards, brushing Dr Paula Moynahan as she did so, with Garcia standing up in saddle and then claiming foul. It was not allowed.

FIFTH RACE: Kamboo Man, 8-1, gunned to daylight lead under Jose Rivera Jr., chased by 41-1 Raceland, Rudy Rodriguez up. Raceland, 6-year-old gelding trained by Neil Terracciano, was racing here for 7.5G tag after beaten 15 lengths last out for 12.5G, but was a promising NY-bred allowance runner years ago when in Rick Violette's barn. He hooked Kamboo Man turning for home, battled past him in long stretch duel, but settled for second when 2-1 Goldispretty came with flying finish under Jose Espinoza to get up late.

SEVENTH RACE: Quite Alice, dropping in for 25G cutting back to seven furlongs on turf after being claimed last out for 35G by Linda Rice, was favored at 8-5 under Julien Leparoux, set pace pressed by 19-1 Mac Speed, with 9-5 Platinumplus tucked inside behind those two, Ramon Dominguez up. Turning for home, Platinumplus, trained by Barclay Tagg, swung off fence, rallied to take command mid-stretch, won with something left. Quite Alice faded to finish off-board.

EIGHTH RACE: Linda Rice entry of Afrikaner and Ziptronic was favored at 4-5 going six furlongs on dirt. Lookin At Her, 18-1, was hard-used by Jose Lezcano sprinting to lead down backside, then around turn Ziptronic, Cornelio Velasquez up, took a run at him. Those two dueled to top of stretch, when Lookin At Her kicked clear again. Afrikaner loomed boldly with late run under Javier Castellano but fell short as Lookin At Her held on to guarantee pick 6 carryover. Rice now 0-for-15 at Belmont fall meet after winning training title at Saratoga.

PICK SIX

Winning numbers: 3-1-7-2-10-8

No winners

Consolation (4 of 6) paid $37

Carryover: $28,210

A serious question ? Who is the angriest man or lady on this forum ? Do you really think that I'm number two ? Do you think that I'm so wrong to hate politicians and what about the Jewish people, I hate the power , the heavy handed way that they control parts of our government ...how do you feel about some of the things that I've posted in the political forum . Have I gone crazy... sure feels that way sometimes... I need to join a support group ... I need to join a sniper team if you get my drift !!
Turf way park , back to the horses, can you find any good stuff at this track ... I understand if you can't ... I sometimes go to the home page and they will have a similar posting like Belmont, under handicapping, some guy giving out his picks .

Stop talking about long range (non-muzzle flash) organizations on an open forum like this. Seriously. Not a good idea. Your thoughts and ideas about the Jews are not wrong, I know Jews who feel that way. Do some digging on Netanyahu, especially his Military background. He was "Black Ops" However, I would touch the break pedal on what you post here. The balloon is about to go up over there (Israel and Iran) meaning there is going to be a WHIRL WIND OF SHIT HITTING How we react as a Nation is the big unknown. Barry still has his thumb in his ass about Afghanistan. Chances are we will dedicate a ton of resources to Israel being the Rahmbo is still an ACTIVE MOSSAD AGENT

TURFWAY PARK- BATAGLIA

TURFWAY PARK- BATAGLIA

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25
Race 1
HAPPENSTANCE moves back in for a tag after an even race at Ellis last time out. She ran a few decent races here last winter and rates a slight edge in a well matched field. CHEERS was a close third last time out and looks like the one to beat. SEE ROCK CITY comes in off a nice second place finish against similar at Ellis and would be no surprise here.

Race 2
SKY PATRIOT drops in class after a disappointing effort at Hoosier last time out. He ran well over the all-weather tracks in California and figures to be in a good spot just off of what should be a quick pace; give him the edge here. GARDEN DANCER has won four of his last five starts, has won over the Polytrack, and is the one to beat. PASS GO just missed last time out and figures to be running at the end again tonight.

Race 3
MILLENNIUM QUEEN ran poorly in her only start this year but has trained well since that start and Mike Maker has been on fire recently. Look for her to regain her winning ways against this bunch. LANGILA drops in class after a decent effort last time out and looks like the one to beat. MASAI QUEEN didn't show much last time out but is capable of better.

Race 4
ARCHMANI just missed at this same level last time out in her first start on the surface. She picks up Borel tonight and should move forward off that last start. Give her the edge. LEGAL MOTION didn't fire last time out but loves the track here at Turfway and can definitely win here. THECLEVEREST could add value to the gimmicks.

Race 5
SPRUCED UP was second best last time out at Ellis and could be tough to beat here if he takes to the Polytrack. TRICKY PINOCCHIO was no match for the top pick last out but gets in light with Rossi tonight and is a threat. CALIFORNIA LION takes a big drop in class in his first start back in over a year. He shows some decent works since that one and has to be considered.

Race 6
HUMBLE EARL is a veteran runner who should get a solid pace in front of him tonight. Give him the slight edge in a well matched field. HOLLY HO ran a game third after setting the pace last time out. He will be on or near the lead again tonight and looks like the one to beat. SISYPHUS is a definite threat.

Race 7
BELL BUCKLE finished third behind a runaway winner last time out and looks best in a very weak maiden claimer. TARA BULL drops in class and is the one to beat. ELUSIVE BLUE didn't show much in his first start but drops in class and gets blinkers tonight.

Race 8
SKILLED looked sharp winning at Ellis in her first start back since April. Look for her to make it two in a row for the leading trainer/rider combo of Maker and Gon?alves. LOKOMAMMA has been overmatched in her last two but is back in for a tag tonight and is the one to beat. HOLD THE TENS comes in off two nice wins at Presque Isle and is a contender.

Race 9
IVORY EMPRESS has shown steady improvement for Ian Wilkes and comes off back-to-back wins. She has trained sharply since her last score and looks like a solid bet to continue her streak with Borel picking up the mount. LOVEYOU EVERYBODY has been off since May but shows some nice recent works and broke her maiden over this track last year on Kentucky Cup day. McPeek is good with returning runners and she is the one to beat. THUNDER AND BELLE has won eleven races and has to be respected.

Race 10
COSTALEGRE just missed last time out in his first start in over a year. He has to move forward off that one and he broke his maiden over the Turfway strip last year. Give him the edge. BACK TO ACK will be running at the end and is a solid contender. STAGE STREAM comes in off a nice maiden win here at Turfway and has to be considered.

RICHARD ENG: Lava Man should stay retired

RICHARD ENG: Lava Man should stay retired

RICHARD ENG: Lava Man should stay retired
The retirement of Lava Man lasted about as long as the 21-month hiatus of champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather returned last week to pound the smaller Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden. Who knows if Lava Man can do the same again to the handicap division?

The Daily Racing Form reported that Lava Man has been undergoing stem cell treatment and is looking and training like his old self. Lava Man was forced into retirement because of bad ankles and slow races. The stem cell treatments have improved his ankles to the point that trainer Doug O'Neill has accepted the challenge of bringing back Lava Man.

It won't be easy. Ron McAnally tried two decades ago to bring John Henry out of retirement at the request of owner Sam Rubin. McAnally protected John Henry and, after some slow workouts, the great gelding was retired for good.

I suspect O'Neill will do right by Lava Man. His speed figures in his final year of racing showed Lava Man had lost his edge.

If Lava Man is unable to compete in graded stakes, then why bother? He has made more than $5 million in his career. He owes owners Steve Kenly and Jason Wood nothing. And, God forbid something happens to Lava Man right before the Breeders' Cup, it would be a public relations nightmare.

We have seen a lot of pro athletes stay around too long. I'd rather remember Lava Man as a seven-time Grade 1 stakes winner.

? SANTA ANITA -- How's this for irony: For as many critical comments as I received last week for suggesting that a non-American, namely Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai, should buy Santa Anita Park, then I read days later that Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov has agreed to buy 80 percent of the New Jersey Nets.

So what's the difference between foreign investment in an NBA team or Santa Anita? None whatsoever.

? TWIN Q -- A big carry-over of $10,014 will be available in the Station Casinos Twin Quinella wager, which returns Wednesday with Oak Tree at Santa Anita racing.

? SUNSET STATION -- Jockey Corey Nakatani was the special guest at a VIP horseplayer dinner party Tuesday hosted by new Sunset Station race and sports book director Jamie Shea. Nakatani said he and his agent, Brad Pegram, are laying the groundwork for Oak Tree and obtaining some live Breeders' Cup mounts.

? ORLEANS -- The Fall Championship at The Orleans handicapping tournament will be Thursday to Oct. 3. Entries, which cost $500, are being accepted.
