Well, what a miserable start as early in teh morning it was raining, but then mother nature decided to be nice. My best time of the day was 11.47@127 mph (lack of traction). Here are some pics.

OK, let me get this straight...... :dance2:

Anthony, you are drag racing in normal cars that are supped up to go faster than normal.

Does anyone else see the humor in the fact that there is a graveyard in the background of those pics.

Blazer I missed the grave yard I was focusing on the machines so I had to go back and look for the grave yard (seriously) and no I don't get your point on humor.

If you are implying that drag racing is dangerous so is standing in the batters box in high school baseball game (seriously I lost a friend that was hit in the head with a wild pitch) or even as dangerous was the drive home from the drag race for Becky xxxx, a high school classmate who was hit by a drunk driver in her boyfriends car on the way home from National Trails in 1970 she was sitting on the passengers side when the guy went left of center and head-oned them.

Live life for all it is while you can.

How did you fair against the mustang?

the mustang was a 87 LX hatch with gears, exhuast, and intake, not much of a match.....

my competition came from a 2003 Cobra mustang with a
12 pound supercharger and 100 hp shot of NOS. The owner brought the stang down in a trailer and he rear tires were tubbed out (not street legal). He was running faster than I was as his best time was around 11.30 while mine was 11.47:(

Next time, i'll bring my slicks out and get my revenge

anthony....11.4's in quarter mile is very impressive for a street ride...w/ no slicks....or atleast it was 20 yrs. ago when i was drag racing. i absolutely loved drag racing....but couldnt family [baby] started early for me at age 20.....only got about 3 yrs. in of racing.
bummer for me was.....i had just built my dream car....a 62 pont. catalina with 455 and dual 4-barrels...4.11 rear and built trans....drove the car around the block w/open headers one time...can still remember that feeling of sheer power...this car had 11-12 sec. times in its future....about a week later....my girfriend/now my wife broke the news that she had missed her period....next is history...baby came....car sold in pieces....for alot less than i had in it.....lol....was very sad/mad at time....but replacing a dream car w/ a beautiful daughter....no comparison.
so moral of story....have as much fun while your young.....someday ill get back into it...probably in my late 40's.

what changes have u done to the z28 .....did u change engine...trans....diff. rear end ratio?? is it supercharged/nox system?

i used to run a 72 gran prix,,,,very good-lookin ride....but very heavy[4400lbs].....i liked it because it was original....no-one else was runnin a gran prix....with many engine changes and rebuilds....i finally got a best time of 12.8 w/455 motor and w/slicks on a very cool nite....usually ran in low 13's.

gluck with the drag racing....keep me posted!

Catalina huh, sweet era, neat car, we will have to talk about swiss cheese cars and Super Duty motors man. Everyone has had a goat, or a bird or T/A , maybe even a Judge. But it all started back then !

Does Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick ring a bell with you ?

The 409 & 406 had it's day and the 413 had a song also but the 421 Super Duty was the king of the hill in the early 60's I am told but I was a mere child back then. Still those were the days and I love the cars from that part of the 60's also.

geno....you are right on my man.....early 60's is when it all startted.....all major car manufacturers went head to head producing factory drag cars....i wasnt born until 63, but i did my share of reading about this era....mostly about pontiacs though.
my dad owns a garage, so i grew up with a wrench in my hand...my first ride was a 63 olds cultass with a 330-4brl...
....that car really moved stock....when i was 16 picked up this 72 gran prix from scarolina...really a sharp /car body style...man, i lived to make this car go faster....had a 400 in it from factory.car was fast enuff as is for most people im sure...definetly not fast enuff for me......so found a 428 motor in a old catalina down in wva......took that motor out.....bored it out....cam....all the goodies....stuck it my gran prix....started racing it....pulled low 14's maybe a hi 13 on a cool nite....wanted to go faster....found a 455 and built the shit out of it....finally got down to 13.0 hi 12's...
best thing about this car, was it was the ultimate sleeper....looked like a luxury ride, but could blow the doors of most everything around....especially liked to dust the mustangs , which were the car of choice for alot of my buddies back then...5.0 mustangs that ran 14's right out of the showroom...
was always very satisfying to smoke those 5.0's...lol.

i had read about the 62 pont. catalina with a 421 super duty with 2-4brlls........with the swiss cheese frame....thats when i decided i had to build one....found a 62 2-door in wva....it had a 389 in it....so put a 455 in it...dual 4 barrels....got headers made....trans. made....floor shifter in it...the whole works.....like i said...baby on the way and had to sell both cars as had no money.....other than what i had in my cars...lol.
someday, like to get back into it.....hopefully will happen for me...now got 3-daughters and high school , college and weddings to think about...so who knows...

geno...fill me in on your early cars...u have any old rods in a garage somewhere?

anthony, sorry to go on in your thread, but love to talk cars...hope u dont mind...besides we are both pont. backers...your trans am that runs 11.4 is awesome brother!
i never went that fast....u got any plans to go lower?

Burgh just spotted your reply & I think Anthony will excuse us for mudding up the water here .

Buddy my life is like a cookie cutter of sorts to yours, Girlfriend late my fault we are still married and have raised 4 children (2 boys 2 Girls= B 26/G=25/G=22/B=19)

I used to get calls at her house on date "in" nights from my buddies in town when a stray Duster or Tang showed up in 1974/1975 to check up on my Chevelle SS396's reputation as a BAD street machine. So I would leave her and held into town to show some upstart what my taillights looked like. (I figured she musta loved me to put up with my antics)

I could grind on this keyboard all night with stories of those days but gotta go sell Buick Parts in the AM so here is the Readers Digest version and will elaborate later.

I am a March of 1954 producton model (3/20/54)
First car I drove Dad's Desota Fireflite 2 Dr Hdtop 361 with a pushbutton Torqueflite auto and the giant winged fins on the rear. This car had more windshield and rear glass than metal roof so it was sorta ahead of it's time in some respects styling wise.

I won the first race I every ran in that Mopar simply reved up the 361 to about 4 grand and pushed in the "1" button when the stop light turned green I beat a 64 Galaxie with a 390 who was sitting in gear and being powerbraked in drive. :D

Next car I drove was a 67 Olds Delmont 88 with a 425 Rocket

then a 62 Impala 327 4V with three on the tree (this one was all mine)

Next a 1963 Impala SS 409 body with a 327 (I could not find a 409 to rebuild for it in my area)

Then a 1965 Impala SS 327/300hp that could really roll for a big car (It was still not enough)

Next a 1965 Goat with a 389 4V 4 speed which was getting the full speed upgrade until I found the love of my auto life

A southern Kentucky 1968 Chevelle SS 396 with a blown engine and the factory floor console with the gated shifter and factory tach in the dash the one that had a needle that moved up and down with engine RPM's complete with a tilt wheel and Red exteriior and black guts. I found a 1971 LS-5 454 to repower and we were on our way !

My 22 y/o daoughter needs to college work so I am off:)
