This thing is out of control. I'm sure there must be a good web site somewhere, I will ask my fiance, is is an Atkins fiends. Its so out of control, 7-11 nextdoor has a whole aisle now filled with Atkins bread, bars, shakes and snacks.

Gibber, here is good website:

www.lowcarber.org

I lost 33 lbs on the carb addicts diet, which I think makes more sense than the atkins. If you want any info on CA let me know. By the way cholestreal went down 50pts and triglycerides 150pts. It does work.....Atkins too extreme, you need some carbs

Gibber, I've not studied the Atkins diet but I think it forbids carbs totally. I think the rationale of the diet is to put the body into a state where there is no sugar to burn, thereby burning fat instead. As I understand it, alcohol would be completely taboo.

Captain Crunch, you're right. Many articles I've read indicate that the diet isn't the safest and may cause harm if followed for too long.

Atkins calls for two weeks with no more then 20 carbs a day. Then you slowly add more carbs until you reach point where you no longer are losing.

I did Atkins about 4 years ago and lost 30 lbs in about three months. It works but tough to stay on it for me because I like bread and pasta as well.

Life is too short to screw with it for me anymore. I like to enjoy myself and food is tops on my list. I am 6'3 and 240 pounds, play racquetball 2x a week and swim laps 3x a week. I like my chicken wings, spaghetti and meatballs, and beer.

I may die earlier then most but I will have a hell of a time while I am here. Who wants those last ten years anyway. I have seen grandparents and other relatives struggle mightly in old age. Nursing homes are the ultimate in ripping away the last schred of dignity you have left.

Eat up and quit worrying about it.

a couple things...

I don't think enough time has passed to see what affects this Atkins stuff has had to people. Lets see when they are older an weaker, when they need their liver at its fully functioning level to fight off simple attacks such as the common cold or the flu, if living by this diet has taxed their liver at all. I don't think it regenerates itself as we grow older.

Also, all the products, or products associated with the diet, are max priced. You are better off paying for a personal trainer to come to the house 5 days a week and work you out. I would get a lot more from some hot trainer yelling at me while I sweat than paying 5 bucks for a small twelve ounce loave of Atkins bread. I also would live a much better lifestyle (if needed) with the thought of that trainer in the back of my head. In the long run, I would get into good habits, live healthier, feel better, long after the Atkins fad has passed:rolleyes: and people are licking rocks 10 minutes a day to lose weight, because it's the "latest" thing.

Very important...take vitamins. A multi-vitamin will do, as the majority of your body's energy comes by way of carbs. Have heard stories of fatigue, dizzyness, etc.

Didn't Dr. Atkins die of an "unrelated" heart-attack? Because I'm sure it had nothing to do with cheeseburgers for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Actually he slipped on ice and hit his head, that is what killed him.

My brother-in-law, along with 1 hour a day of cardio, lost 67 lbs in alittle over 2 months...But he was totally gung ho about it. No carbs at all. I don't care if you lose weight or not, too much protein is not good for you at all. After John, my brother-in-law, lost all that weight, he started a weight training routine and slowly incorporated the carbs back into his diet. He's not the lazy, fat fuhk I used to know. Now he's skinny...LOL!!!!

Here is a link to an Atkins Bulletin Board where you can ask all kind of questions on what to eat and not eat.

I tried it for 2 weeks and i just stayed hungry 24 hours. I ate all the meat and protein i wanted but i never felt full. Also i love rice and that is a big item down here in the South.

Gibbler, have been on the atkins for over 200 days now. I have lost almost seven pants sizes.

It works you just need to stick with it. You can have vodka and burbon. (rocks of course) Just remeber that when you drink you are going to burn the liquor first instead of fat. It is best that you do not drink during induction. After you have been on it a while you can have sugar free jello shots. The more vodka the bettor :tongue . Good luck

Grab my e mail from jack if you need anymore advice on how to get going on the diet.
