both guyz have been a bit wild, and i don't see Leiter getting away with it like last game when he threw well over 100 pitches into the 6th inning ... Altanta will make him pay, and Mets don't traditionally fare well against lefties, but this guy Ramirez will put guys on base and Mets should be able to scratch across a few ... he has given it up big on the road, as well ...

Braves big. Leiter is coming off 136 and 120 pitch outings. He will either get hit hard by the Braves or they will get into that ugly Met's pen early. Braves hammer lefties while the Mets struggle with them. Leiter is due to get lit up with all the walks he's been surrendering.

This is a tougher call than you may think.
Leiter is the most hearted pitcher the Mets orginazation has ever had. The guy wears his heart on his sleeve. The 100 pitch count or the 120 pitch count does not make a difference as long as the pitcher has his 5 days rest. Leiter will go out there and pound the Braves and treat them like every team he faces GIVING IT HIS ALL. Braves offense is just dynamite this year and they pound Lefties HARD. However you have TWO GREAT VeteranS in on the Mets orginazation, UNFORTUNATLY, the offense can not produce for these guys even when in the game. Glavine knows this team and will teach Leiter what works and what doesn't work against this team. Who hits what and who can't hit what. Leiter looks to Glavine as "father' figure in pitching and Leiter listens well...This game will be closer than you think and Mets should be able to push enough runs across for a victory. Leiter is no rookie the man learns from his mistakes and his teammates mistakes. He'll be one lefty who does get to the braves. Not my final Decision yet but I like Mets tonight and I am not biased toward them when it's my money on the line. I really think Leiter comes out strong tonight. Far as the offense WHO KNOWS!

This thread is starting off great and is exactly what I hoped for but a couple of questions as I still have not made a pick on the total or side as of yet.

is weather going to be a big factor? I heard it's been raining for two solid weeks in the area and the forecast I see tonight has the wind blowing pretty strongly FROM the NW which would mean in @ Shea and according to a few sites that is a under situation but does rough field conditions enhance the total to go lower or hinder it?

Finally I have noticed that ost of the early replies are brave backers which i can respect however I don't buy the braves hammer lefties (which I know they do) against lieter. The current Braves line up i hitting in the .230's against him and I heard chipper may not play tonight?

I am also not sold o the Leiter over 100 pitch theory i see that he has thrown over 100 pitches in 8 of his last 10 starts and the ets are 7-3 in those starts so not a factor in my book. I do however see that the Mets are just 3-7 in his last ten starts against the Braves and that to e is a factor.

Leiter's toughness - He consistently has high pitch counts and seems to thrive in that situation. I am saying if he goes to long counts on these Brave's hitters, as he did in his last start, he will be in some trouble, as they are locked in at the plate. I don't see him getting hammered by any means ... the pen may give up a few to push this one over in my opinion - GLTA

Leiter is 2-0 in his last 5 Starts at Shea Stadium. Leiter is 7-9 lifetime against the Braves with a 2.79ERA in 21 appearences. Leiter on the season is 5-2 w/ a 4.21 ERA.. I like the way ATL responds after a loss, and this Ramirez kid learned to adjust second time a team sees him after he failed to do against FL April 11 (his last loss).


some trends:


Braves has dropped two in row just once in the last month and a half.

Braves have won last five series vs Mets.

Braves are 11-1 vs Lefties this season, and 8-0 on sundays so far.




Some Braves do hit Leiter hard, from official sites:

Leiter will have his hands full with Julio Franco, Gary Sheffield and Chipper Jones. The trio are hitting a combined .390 (41-for-105) with six homers in their career against the southpaw.

damastac..2 veru good write-ups..my only problem with glavine being the father figure and teaching leiter all the tricks on how to deal with the braves is......why didnt he teach himself...as he lost both contests already this year vs his former club

J, asked myself the same question. I had a very nice conversation with myself trying to determine this while watching the Pathetic Yankees take on the Detroit Tigers..I think I'm gonna bet on the Tigers all YEAR LONG...HAHA YEAH OOOKKKAAAAYYYY! :thefinger :thefinger

Anyway being seriouse though, I think what happened is that Glavine had alot of emotions running through, no matter what he says you know he had the butterflies versus his old team, he was there for what 12 years I think...If you watched the games you noticed he was afraid to come inside because he throws breaking balls inside and Braves easily dominate them. No Brave hit the Ball hard against him the second time, they were 4 Homeruns that kinda Floated out. Leiter even if he gives up a Homerun in the 1st inning will not stop pounding inside. He will come right at the Braves with his very dominate cutter and this I think that is where Leiter will learn from the mistakes...Braves are a VERY nice play but I just have to stick with the Mets tonight Far as "why didn't he listen to himself, well what parent do you know that says things to their kids and follow their own advice?..G/L either way one of us will win...

Well if i have to

i am afraid the braves at -120 look just too good here....

i mean all the numbers i dig up say play the braves and there are even sevral cappers I respect on the braves too but I just can't pull the trigger....


the only way the Mets win this is with a good pitching performance fro Leiter....where the Braves could win even without a good performance from Ramieriez because they can hit thier way to a win..... ...


out of all the situations a pitcher can be in (home, away, day, night, etc..) Leiter has his lowest ERA at home 3.19 and Ramieriez has his highest on the road @ 5.09..Raimeriez has been winning games with solid pitching, yes but his run support has been even greater....something they will not be available tonight if Al throws his game...

this total should go under and has many good trends on thier side as this series has been a under series, two good pitchers are goin, wind is blowing in and last reporrt I got it was somewhat strong and the umpire is not the greatest over guy in the world...


so I have not made up my mind yet because it would seem the braves and the under is the way too go but if it seems to be good to be true it usually is and those 2 plays are the consensus of the public for sure....
