Vanished into vortex
Let me preface this by saying that I know A.C. is not Vegas as far as gambling goes and the town has never been confused with Hilton Head, but damn.

I've been out there every year for 8 years now with the exception of last year. We got back yesterday from four days out there early this week and the place has completely gone to hell. I'm talking about Detroit bad. It's just a slum these days.

We always stay at the Tropicana because I get comped there and it's just not work staying there anymore. I can remember when they had people polishing the brass fixtures everyday to keep the place looking nice. Now, there are handles missing from the front entry doors with duct tape covering the sharp pieces left hanging there. The room was awful, the staff is almost non-existent and those who are working can't do their job correctly.

The dealers in the casino suck anymore. None are friendly, a few didn't completely understand the rules to the games they were dealing and others simply made bad rulings that the camera had to correct.

I know the economy sucks and that has to be what has ruined the place, but damn, it doesn't have to be as bad as it is.

I loved the annual trip to A.C., but I think this is probably our last year visiting. We have casinos and bad service here these days, no need to drive 7 hours to get it.

Was at the Mt. Airy Poconos casino golf resort a few months ago. I didn't like it too much, Vegas is more my style - the nice places and the shabby places in Vegas give it character. However, everything was super nice at Mt. Airy and the place was very clean for a casino.

From the first time I went to AC, I thought the whole place was what I always imagined Baltic Ave. was like when I played Monopoly. Nothing I ever saw on subsequent visits ever changed my mind.

Maybe it was nice during the Boardwalk Empire days, but shit has it been a dump since the first time I went there in the late nineties. I'm sure it had been that way for some time before I first went there. Anyone here old enough to have ever gone there when the town wasn't a cesspool?

Living in PA, the problem with AC is that nobody here needs to make the short drive over there to gamble anymore with casinos popping up everywhere. Pittsburgh has a few within driving distance.

I thought AC was a shithole 12-13 years ago cant imagine now. My dad always got comp at Tropicana much like yourself, well I took a new pharmaceutical sales position back then where I was in parisppany for 5 weeks of training, and meet him down there for 2 weekends....

Never forget this, I walked in and went throughout the whole place twice to find a sportsbook, I believe Philly was playing Toronto in the NBA playoffis when Iverson was there, and the casino made fun of me when I asked where the sportsbook was. They said to me "son" if we opened gambling on sports the underground or illegal book making would go bizark or never let it happen in Philly, or NJ or NY. Never happen.

Long story short I never went back.

 I had that exact same experience of looking for a sportsbook and being shocked that the shithole didn't have one.

The Problem is all politicians are in bed with AC. Nobody wants to shut down their casino despite the fact they are losing $$. I don't see a point in opening any new casinos. Just going to make the others shitter and create more bad areas. Yes there are a few real nice spots in AC- But is paying an arm and a leg for a few nights to stay in Detroit of the East worth it? They should level the whole town. and set up shop in the meadowlands. More ppl in Northern NJ and more media to expose corruption.
