I think Nick Saban has a lot to do with that....New Years bowl games are a consolation prize as opposed to NC'S.
Also the state has no NFL team, so.....they go crazy over college football in the state. Gus is making way more $ than he should and that also comes into play. :0008

if big time college coaches were paid by the strength of their schedules year after year they would all have part time jobs except Gus and a few others.
The only thing keeping our team competitive in the past few seasons is our defense, which doesn't have much to do with Gus. Look at our 2 Losses this year and tell me a competent offense wouldn't have won those games. And I'm not blaming Nix for what it's worth. He looks like a true freshman QB playing in big games. Our OL is trash and we haven't had a Tight End in years. For an "offensive guru" he just doesn't seem to have a complete unit together on O and our development on that side of the ball is non-existent once they get to campus.
Problem at this point is what does Gus really bring to the table? Pretty sure you could have any number of OCs calling plays for us and we'd probably have as good or better record from 2016-2019 if you didn't change anything on the defensive side of the ball those years... and if that's possible to get rid of Gus and keep the D staff and some of the better O assistants around, I'd be at least seeing what options were out there if I were the AD

Since 2016 we've had 15 losses. 10 of those losses we held the opponent to 28 or less points. "offensive guru" doesn't lose that many in 3.5 seasons when you hold an opponent under 30 in college

This comment evaluated means that the teams Auburn are playing has gotten really good. That is part of the reason Gus seems to always be on the hot seat..Other teams are getting better while it seems Gus is always making excuses..I would love to have Auburn defense at Bama,,Gus offense not so much
