fired

Tony Franklin has been fired as Auburn?s offensive coordinator a source close to the program told the Opelika-Auburn News on Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin was hired in December of 2007, just a few days after then-AU offensive coordinator Al Borges was let go by head coach Tommy Tuberville.

Franklin, who spent the last two years at Troy, was brought to Auburn to run the spread offense - or the ?Tony Franklin System? which has been installed at high school programs across the country.

Franklin?s offense hasn?t lived up to its expectations this season, as the Tigers are 4-2, 2-2 in the SEC.

The offense is near or at the bottom in most offensive categories in the SEC and the country. Auburn ranks 104th in total offense (309.2 yards per game), 105th in pass efficiency (104.98), tied for 111th in red zone offense (65 percent) and 112th in third-down conversions (29.7 percent).

Franklin is a stupid fool. Why would you run that offense when you have two solid running backs!

Tony Franklin's Auburn tenure is over

Tony Franklin has been fired as Auburn's offensive coordinator. The official announcement came this afternoon.

?After evaluating where we are at this point of the season offensively, I felt it was in the best interest of the Auburn football program to make this change,? Tuberville said. ?I?m not satisfied with where we are and I am personally going to take a larger role with the offense the remainder of the season. We are going to work harder than ever to make sure we consistently improve as we move forward.?

In a bizarre turn of events, Franklin was fired hours before Wednesday's practice in preparation for Saturday's game against Arkansas after he and head coach Tommy Tuberville apparently had words.

Franklin had vowed just the day before that that the "old Tony Franklin" was back and had led a high-energy, up-tempo offensive practice.

Franklin joined Auburn's staff last December to install his version of the spread offense. It was successful in a 26-20 win over Clemson, but the Tigers have struggled this season on offense.

Franklin told friends that he did not believe he was belng allowed to run the offense he took the job to run. In four Southeastern Conference games, the Tigers have scored just five offensive touchdowns.

Tuberville is expected to announce before Saturday who will call plays against Arkansas. A decision on who will be in charge of the offense probably won't come until next week.

:00hour :toast: :00hour Its about fuking time, that play calling against vandy was the worst I have ever seen BAR NONE, we ran over them in the first quarter with Tate off tackle, and then all of a sudden we were running gimmick plays and being pass happy, I think Tate had 3 attempts after the first quarter or something, I was in disbelief watching the game, we handed vandy the game gift wrapped.

i couldnt disagree with you more, have you watched any of our games this year? CTT was sick of it not working. the players, coaches, and fans werent buying this crap. CTT took over the first Q last weekend and we looked like a team with a plan. we ran the ball for 140 yds and two scores running his O. then handed the reigns to franklin and we ran for 3 yards the rest of the game. horrible, painful, and not fair to the players. the only guy that new that offense on the team was franklin. knox, nall, emsfingers, etc had no imput in any of the practices. franklin didnt even talk to them. he was an ego maniac and not a team player. good riddance IMO
