Friend of mine tells me there's a first time starter at Gulfstream going tomorrow in race 8 that should win. He's a non-bettor, but spoke with someone who is connected with this horse. He didn't write the name down and I couldn't find anything close to what he said from the entry list at gulfstream.com All I know is it's the baby of Barbaro. Will be busy playing in an online poker event for most of the day and can't get out to the OTB to get a program.Who is he talking about?

thanks in advance...

I was out at the Downs last Saturday for the Sunshine Millions and the place was dead. Churchill Company and the California tracks are having their battle again so no simulcasting of the Calf. tracks--think it took them until mid-Feb last year to get it solved if memory serves. Between that and the no-smoking policy I'm surprised the place is still open...
It looks to me that its a brother of barbaro going in the 8th at Gulfstream tomorrow, Mully. Nicanor is the name--track handicapper expects him to be the overwhelming favorite as everyone is talking about him. 4-1 morning line, though. Worth taking a look at if I'm home tomorrow afternoon.

This is a full baby brother to Barbaro. There is actually another one, I believe named Lentenor, who is either a weanling or a yearling this year as well. The Jacksons bred the Carson City dam back to Dynaformer twice more after Barbaro, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle again....

I would love to see this horse be a world-beater, and in fact, I'll be "cheering" for him, but my money won't be on his nose, at least not today.

Trainer Matz is 1 for his last 47 first time starters, and 0 for his last 16 when he debuts them at a mile or greater. Matz is an incredible horseman, and there is no doubt Nicanor is fit to go today, but his horses rarely win at first asking.

I think the 10 horse, Dubinsky will be the obvious choice in here. He shows a nice workout pattern and came up with a big effort, though overmatched, in his last start. Outside post could put Castellano in a nice stalking position.

The 13 will be an interesting proposition if he draws in off the AE list. The switch to dirt may be just what this colt needs.

And for a longshot, I think #1 Unbridled Cardinal has an outside shot at all the marbles. He could not have gotten off to a worse start in his debut on 1/15, but now has a mile race under his belt and gets the red hot Leparoux for this assignment.

That said, c'mon Nicanor. I mean, who doesn't like a feel good story? And if one sport needs one, it's horse racing right now.

This really is a tough race, so might as well go for a price.

First of all, Pletcher has two bullets in this race, that alone makes it tough?.

#4 Nicanor ? Barbaro?s bro, hell Barbaro is my avatar, so I?ll be cheering for him, but my money will be elsewhere.

#1 Unbridled Cardinal - Zito 22% with 2nd Time Starters @ 20-1, race over the track, worth a couple of sheckels wps.

#10 Dubinsky ? Reynolds 21% with 1st Route Race @7/2 a little too chancy in this race with that outside post, even if it is a one turn mile.

#7 Boyhood Dream ? Ward 25% with 1st Time Starters @10-1, Ward is one of my favorite trainers with 1st Time Starters, I am also a Baird fan. I?ll play this one wps, lightly.

I?ll play:
#1 for 2 units wps.
#7 for 1 units wps.
Ex box 1-7-10

Hey Axle....Boyhood Dream is an interesting proposition. Ward's horses usually show speed at first asking, so the thing that has me puzzled is why the debut at this distance?
Ward is scorching to start the meet as well (5/12 = 42% win clip and 8/12 in the money).

I always check out your plays, so keep 'em coming.

Good Luck today. :mj06:

Ward is playing this hand like Pletcher, he also has two bullets in this race........Ward's other horse is #2 Big Flirt.

He has two races under his belt, the debut at Saratoga last August and Churchill Downs in October....both were bet o.k., showed some speed in the debut and faded. In the second race it looks like he had a little trouble, still beat half the field.....been off since then, steady works including 5 over Gulfstream, three of them bullets....

Like I said, this is a tough race....
