Two plays offered for consideration:

Tampa Bay -1 vs. Baltimore
Home favorites with something to play for are usually a good bet this time of year. Laying less than a FG in this contest, Tampa is a real bargain. Bucs complete the regular season with a favorable schedule -- playing their final three games at home. Bucs are 12-1 SU in December under coach Dungy and should finish strongly and pick up a playoff spot. Ravens defense is not nearly as dominant as their reputation suggests (evidence: C. Dillon ran for 127 yards last week?. Bengals were shutout 16-0 largely because of the Bengals' miserable passing attack). Ravens' defense has allowed 26, 27, 21, and 27 points in the previous four games prior to last week. That's not dominance -- that's mediocrity. Meanwhile, Ravens offense continues to be suspect, putting up only 16 points in a critical divisional game at home last week. In that game, Ravens failed to convert any 3rd downs in their final 8 attempts. Those kinds of numbers do not support the idea of Ravens going out on the road in a non-conference game and picking up a win versus a decent team. Last week, Tampa used quick passes to keep the Saints defense off-balance and will likely try that tactic again this week. QB Brad Johnson was not sacked even once in the New Orleans game, as Bucs used slants and sideline patterns to consistently burn the secondary and control the game clock. Bucs running game also looked strong and should pick up yards here against a defensive line that is now very banged up. Tampa is at home, is healthier, plays more consistent defense, and probably needs to win this game more than the Ravens (Baltimore gets a wild card spot if they win either of their final two games -- and they get Minnesota at home next week, while Tampa faces Phila -- so this is a MUST WIN game for Tampa). Of some concern -- Bucs kicker Gramatica may miss this game because of an injury. Bucs were auditioning kickers this week. I'll still go with the Bucs to win and cover the small number.

PROPOSITION:
TEAM TO HAVE THE MOST NET RUSHING YARDS:
TAMPA BAY +150 (at Olympic)
Bengal's Dillon ran for 130 yards last week and Ravens defensive line is banged up. I figure this is a just about an even money proposition to break either way, so I'm going to go with the value and take advantage of a bad line (+150). If Tampa builds an early lead, Ravens have shown they are quick to abandon the run and start passing. Ravens don't have the quality of running game to be favored on the road 3-2 on this kind of proposition. An easy decision here to go with Tampa.

Nolan you put it in words better then I can. But TBay I beieve has more to play for. This game also looks so under. I believe Balt will as you say, end up trying to throw the ball. Over it goes. 20 to 17. Balt gets late TD.
Forgot to say GL To All

Tampa did have some nagging injuries to key players (i.e. Brooks) during the season. They are looking healthier each week, and are flying around again. The offense, when in a groove, is tough to stop. They can pouund w/ the fullback, throw in the flats to Dunn, and stretch the field (where the hell is Green?), but rarely do. Baltimore has to throw to win, and that gives Tampa an advantage, because they like to rush the passer. I don't see Baltimore stepping up here. In fact, I thought their back was broken by Pittsburgh in the second meeting. They don't have the same spirit as Tampa.

Hey Nolan, your boy Spergon Wynn gets a start today.

ravens will win, period!

the best bet of the game, if you can get it, is over 7 in the 3rd quarter. for some reason, both defenses struggle in the 3rd quarter, performing worse than any other quarter. maybe a coaching thing? both offenses are a little above average scoring in the 3rd quarter. i think we'll see 10 points easily in the 3rd.

bal/tb over 7 +115 in the 3rd quarter

i like the balt 3rd quarter proposition, as well as second half over.

one question: 7 points only for the 3rd quarter, or is it the 3rd fifth? line at 34?

edit: nolan:

an even proposition, with the handicapping bias toward the +150 sounds like a winner. i love these props, but still did not get to open accounts with these guys, and acesgold is pretty straight in that sense. maybe next year.

When I saw "my boy" Spergon Wynn was starting for the Vikes tomorrow, that was better than an overdose of Viagra (not that I've taken Viagra before -- I just wnat to keep this clean). Watching that pathetic pantload in 5 degree Lambeauland should be a hoot tomorrow -- already got my money down on the UNDER and strongly leaning to laying lots of chalk. I swear, I was giggling like little girl watching Wynn put up three points at home in Minnesota last week.

ok, nolan

the balance of my account on the under with you, only because of the reasoning:

"giggling like a little girl". that is good enough for me. of course i'm kidding, but the balance goes. you and i are bound to agree and hit something some time, aren't we? law of averages? hah!

(or, am i really the "c u r s e" ?)

Wynn is getting the start. Romaro Miller, and Bouman will back him up. Will have between 6-7 different starters this week with injuries. Guards on offense, Linebackers on "D" most affected

Spergon Wynn played for the Browns the last 2 seasons. If he couldn't stick with one of the worst offenses in the league, what makes anyone think he will put up any points. The best part is that it will be 20 degrees with a wind chill of -2 in Green Bay today. This one should be a laugher.

just had to bring this one back up. i NEED to, both for nolan and myself.

if you think the g.b. under was tough, how about my other straight bet, st louis under 59.5?

it looks like 3-3 + for you, and i ended up 4-4, including 2 superteasers. for some strange reason, the both of us have been riding similar patterns this year.

anyway, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!

pep

p.s.
jack, i am glad i did not have access to the 3rd qtr prop plus, the account was empty, so i could not do the second half over either. happy coincidence.
