I know there is a ton of articles on the web for this, but I want to get everybody's take on it. I have poor money management and every damn week I think there is a GOY, and I lay way too much money on it.

I guess all in all, I like to gamble to make the games more interesting, and money is a sidebar, BUT, I need the money that I'm gambling with. I guess you can associate that with a gambling problem.

Last year I ended up breaking even because of the bowl's. I don't bet that much at all. $20-$150. But I probably take 10-15 games during the weekends in the the fall. I am wanting to start with a small amount... maybe around $500-$750 and try to make a small profit or break even for the football season.

I need to stop putting the majority of my roll on just one game. I love football and laying some change on the game makes it a lot better, but sometimes I get out of hand. I need to have something written in paper before I make my bets, to help me out with my money management.

Hopefully someone has had this problem and fixed it... Or hell... everybody is still trying to fix it :mj07:

Time to take a break, you seem to know it maybe. I know it's easier said than done but you should try and step back and take a good look at things.

Good luck

Thats exactly what I'm doing. I am going to load $750 in the account and once its gone... its gone. I've got to use some self-control...

Most ppl gamble for fun and there is nothing wrong with that.

We are all playing to win, but you cant really quit your day job if you hit 10 bets in a row for twenty bucks.

If you want to get serious about betting, then you have to stop betting on a hunch or playing the MNF game because its on TV.

Establish a bankroll for the season. A total amount that you could lose and still be able to live comfortably and pay all your bills.

Take that amount, whatever it may be, and divide by 100. Thats what you bet, everytime.

So, if you go into the next football season with 2,000 dollars, then you bet 20 bucks everytime. 5k = 50 bucks, etc. All bets the same, no chasing, no parlays, no bull$hit.

Many people will laugh and call a 1% play conservative, and for recreational bettors it certainly could be. For those who make plenty of plays, its still very possible to have a -10% or more weekend. It certainly helps out on Monday when you had your ass handed to you Sat/Sun playing everything flat instead of having a 5x-10x bet on ONE game and getting bailed out or chasing.

That $hit is for amateurs. No game is worth 3x, 4x, or 10x another. If you can pick more winners than losers - flat bets are the way to go. If you cant, then stop betting.

The 65th Square
here is

here is

my take on this

I would go with this:

go with 30 bucks a game flat

that should give you about 25 plays if you go 0 for 25.

now, we both know you want the rush of the big score etc.

there is no problem with this, but do the following

make your max game of the year etc. 150 no matter what

here is the catch

in week 1 you can only bet 30 a game

in subsequent weeks, you can only bet more than 30 a game if you have profits from previous weeks

this will let you go for the occasional 100 buck or 150 dollar play

this will keep you in the game and add a nice rush if you win big

you can go for the big score but only if you have profits

just stick to it

you might lose your whole 750, but you would have to get on a terrible run at 30 bucks a game

just make sure if you have profits and do hit a 150 dollar win or two, don't ever go with more than 150 on any one game

i bet baseball totals a ton on here and have done very well the past few years

however, without discipline I would have been out of the game even this year

in weeks 2 and 4 i got murdered on here, picks were losing, people were cursing at me and even getting banned ...

if i had gone for the big game of the year, i would not have had anything left

now, even in the past few days since i had money in the account due to discipline, i was able to reap the benefits of a nice 16-4 run

good luck and be sure to tell me if you have profits and win one of those 150 dollar plays

oh yeah

here is to a big CHA CHING for ya in the future

Appreciate all the feedback. I have been doing some thinking... and I'm going to probably load the account up w/ 1k. set my max bet at $75 or $100. I can only bet $100 two times a month(THIS CANNOT CHANGE)

My average bet size will be $20.

The problem I have is when I'm down some change going into sunday and monday night, I chase. I need to use some discipline.

When I was younger and I played for cash on the links, the guy that always backed me said, "Gambling money has no home, one day it's yours, the next day it roams."

I always tell my friends that quote, but I never let it sink in with me. and I agree with Saint... if losing money bothers me, then I(or anybody) shouldn't be betting. Of course, everybody gambles to make money, not lose.

I am so competitive and hate losing....
