Your use of the 14th Amendment is unusual, since the Amendment itself states that the Amendment isn't enforceable, except by act of Congress. How can a document need the imprimatur of a body that had to be in existence before the enactment of the law, to make the act enforceable?? Who elected Congress, if the electorate weren't citizens?? The whole thing is wrought with confusion, and if you don't think you have a good understanding of the 14th Amendment, try reading Texas v White, where CJ Chase invokes the Articles of Confederation (which by the way, stay specifically that dissolution of the Articles could only be accomplished by unanimous vote, meaning we still live in the country created by those Articles), which have never been the law of the State called the United States of America.

Not only that, but citizenship clauses therein are tenuous at best, relying as they do on a strange interpretation of body politic.

For the coup de grace, there is no record of the Amendment having attained the necessary votes (at the time) to become law.

:mj03: That was way beyond my capacity to understand.......I could use some help here.

not really upset

Just keep handing out the ribbons for posts. Seems to be what you are 3rd best at. Right after constant indirect comments at other members in every post you can and your best feat, following DTB's ass around this forum like you need a warm place to keep your nose.

I find it funny though many of the others in here you don't like don't seem to judge simple things as easily as you find the ability to do so.

It takes arrogance many of us don't seem to have.

Keep your nose warm.

Interesting perspective. I'll give you a blue ribbon for this post, for using some cognitive thought.

I have to admit, the judging simple things is a little hard for me to follow, so you got me on that one. If responding to a totally dismissive short response to me shows my arrogance, then, I guess I'm a little snooty sometimes. Sorry if I tend to respect those that take the time to put some thought and effort into responses a little more and get into the issues a little. Heck, maybe even be a little open minded at times...that can be interesting.

And I agree I do tend to gravitate to Wayne's posts a lot, as I think he takes a strong position that usually differs from mine, and often BEGS for responses to his comments. I've given him credit plenty of times, and I've learned from many of his posts. Sorry if I find his posts more interesting and thought provoking that some others. He has returned kudos to me at times, which breeds respect.

I can see how you or others could read arrogance into some of my posts. I have opinions, like to share them, measure them against others, and I feel pretty comfortable with the English language. Sorry if my arrogance bothers you, I think I'm a pretty level guy for the most part, and actually spend a lot of times rethinking my positions on things - especially over the past few years. I probably should read what I'm typing again before posting sometimes, and tone it down some, I'll grant you that.

Seems to me that a lot of people make comments about others in this forum. Probably more evident here in a forum titled Politics and Religion.

Ditto here Chad--I might not agree with some positions--but am always willing to listen and change my mind--if counter stance is based on objective reasoning and sources.
Pet Peeve is those that state opinion backed up by zilch.
Obama can't win or McCain can't win opinions are boring but if person backs up opinion with why they think that--then it becomes quite interesting to me regardless of which stance they take.

and not referring to you IO--I always enjoy your posts--but believe you may have been a tad harsh with Chad on this one. Is easy to argue back and forth on opinions--but I especially enjoy debates with Chad and others that generally back their stance with objective reasoning.

No big deal, really, I enjoy the give and take. Seems like personally I've been kind of short tempered about a lot of things lately - always happens this time of year when cabin fever meets end of basketball season tourneys with the boy. A lot of pent up agression, I guess.

Heading for Hawaii next Saturday, so I will probably be more relaxed after that...

I do think IO was correct in that I do cop a bit of an attitude sometimes. But, I guess all I have to say to that is quote Fred Sanford...

"Shut up you big dummy!" :D

Oh, ok...thanks for your in-depth commentary on that. Cleared it right up...

You are probably right in some ways, though. With closed minded bigots and ignorant negativity permiating the thoughts of many in this country, change for some will probably never happen.

Carry on with your bad self.

No problem DTB or Chad. Guess I may have ran with things a bit after reading this.

That is probably one of the shortest typed posts I've ever made in this forum. Was trying to add something when I should have just passed on it. His original post does hit home with me. I have direct personal experience with those he talked about, as well as those close to me do. I prefer not to go into it. I'll pass next time.

I gotta side with Wayne here. George was really popular with the guys in the Texas Air National Guard. If thats not a resume builder I don't know what is. He should put that stat next to the picture of him as a cheerleader with that big megaphone.

By the way, Cincinnati finds another way to embaress itself. Marge Schott, Pete Rose, Bill Cunningham, Jerry Springer, Charlie Manson. This town does pretty good for a small hick town in the middle of a corn field in getting out our share of lunatics.

Definitely understandable, I've heard some of those things from other Illinois locals, and have my own concerns about Obama. I am not caught up in the swell, and something has always seemed a little too "perfect" to me, at least in his ascent and the swooning thing. I'm going to e-mail by brother in law and see what he thinks of him - although the North Shore is pretty far (in more ways than one) from South Side Chicago.

Where in Hawaii Chad--and 1st time?
Thought Maui was most beuatiful place I ever been--big Island ok but a bit to commercial for my liking. Don't remember date of last time there but was when jet came apart and Stewardess flew out of plane and disappeared. Saw the jet with big hole in it at airport as I was leaving. If you take your clubs --your in for a treat--graiest greens you'll ever putt on.

First time, Wayne, just the wife and I going, staying just north of Lahaina in a condo on the beach in Maui. As we are pretty simple eaters, will load up at the market and enjoy some other things than expensive meals for the most part. Not taking the clubs, as she plays but doesn't care about where too much, and I'd rather not blow the big money on the two of us playing when I can't really enjoy the experience and concentrate on a great course. I probably will go to a range on a nice course and just hit some there, and look around.

Renting a convertible for the week, and doing the Road to Hana one day, sailing on the America's Cup boat one afternoon, Sunrise bike thing one night/morning, and the Luau in Lahaina. Probably not going to do much else other than stare at the ocean and the whales while gitting sh*tfaced the rest of the time on my balcony...:tongue

Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. (born in Nyangoma-Kogelo, Bondo District, Nyanza Province, Kenya,[11] of Luo ethnicity) and Ann Dunham (born in Wichita, Kansas).[12] Throughout his early years, he was commonly known at home and school as "Barry".[13] Obama's parents met while both were attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student.[14] They separated when he was two years old and later divorced.[15] His father went to Harvard University to pursue Ph.D. studies, then returned to Kenya.
................................................................

I was bothered hearing that his name was Barry so I looked it up to see how this Obama name came about. I was thinking like Ali he may have changed his english name to a muslim name.

Thats not the case. His fathers name was Obama.

He didnt change his name because of some religious affiliation.

I am probably going to vote for him.

Out with the old guard in with the new.

If he screws it up we can send him packing in 4 years. He cant be any worse than Bush has been.
