Baseball Rules Question

When there is a change of pitcher (normally at the end oan innings), why does the releiver last such a short time before being brought off, even if that reliever is pitching well??

For example, Perisho comes on for Florida with men on bases, gets a double play to end the innings, yet is brough off for the next innings.

Are there rules I am missinbg and why do they do it. If a reliver is pitching well, and comes on in say the 7th/8th innings, cant he stay on until the end??

Help appreciated.

It is usually matchup induced. Any reliever can stay in for as long as the manager likes, there is no heavy, steadfast rule governing when a pitcher is taken out, unless 2 mound visits in an innning by his pitching coach or the manager.

No rule against it, but the manager doesn't care how well a middle reliever is pitching they won't want him to bat.

That was the situation with Perisho, the ninth spot in the lineup came up during the top of the 8th and down 3 runs they don't want to waste an out by letting him go take some hacks at the plate.

Yeah point taken about Perisho. Could they have brought on a pinch hitter??

Also I have seen it tons of times in baseball, where a reliever I consider to be pitching very well, and doing the job, brought off despite a low number of throws. Perhaps, the Perisho example wasnt a good one, but I am sure there are others.

And sometimes, theu guy they bring on to releive the reliever gets hit about like hell, and you wish that the original releiver was still pitching.
