What kind of fishing line do you use? I bought some spiderwire fusion last weekend and it sucks. I think I got an old pack or some rotten line because I broke that line about 5 times last Saturday. I would break very easy and it was 14lb test. I must have got a bad pack but what kind do you use? Has anyone tried out Berkley Firewire?

Going fishing Saturday so hopefully I'll get some answers by then...

Thanks

It all depends on what type of fishing you are doing. I would assume freshwater for you DR. I would aslo assume it would not be bass fishing with 14lb t. Nevermind, i just saw your topic. Those are some monster bass buddy. I think 10lb is too much for bass. I prefer action over torque when it comes to fishing. Either way i have found over the years that Stren is the all around best. Spiderwire is funky. It erodes easy and doesn't work nearly as effective as advertised. I'm just not a fan of braided lines. Good luck with your adventures

I agree with wareagle Stren is the best for both fresh and salt water.

WarEagle if you like action I hope you tried fishing with a ultra lite system with 2lbs. test. This will make a shinner feel like a whale. You may lose more fish from line breaks but what a challenge.

Don't waste your money on all those funky lines. No need to reinvent the wheel. Just get some plain ole Wal-Mart grade Stren like Wareagle said. I think 10 lbs would be fine...plenty strong enough yet light as a feather for good sensitivity.

Wareagle - how is Aussie treatin' ya? 180 degrees from NYC I bet LOL! ;)

The darkest day around here was when Jack pulled the plug on our outdoor forum. This is *exactly* the type of topic that we were talking about every day in there.

I heard that there is a new fishing line made out of synthetic wool. I haven't tried it yet, but one of my friends did and he swears by it.

In fact, I haven't fished since a horrible experience about 3 months ago. My friend Joe was casting and he hooked the eye of my other friend Rick (who had drunk about 15 beers and was sleeping on the bow at the time). Well, Joe had also had his fair share of drink and he didn't pay attention to where his lure went. He started shouting, 'hey, I think I got a good one here'. He was yanking furiously on the pole and was very excited. He thought he had a monster tarpon or something similar.

I was facing the other way, but as I turned around to see what Joe had going on, my eyes were met with an explosion of blood that seemed to be coming right out of Ricks head. That's because it *was*. Well, long story short, Rick's eyeball ended up being the only thing that we caught that day. We took the eye (still on the hook) to the hospital with us. About 2 hours later, a somber looking doctor came out and informed us that when they tried to get the eye off the hook, the barbs tore up the eye so bad that it was rendered useless. Rick refuses to acquire a glass eyeball, so he wears a patch. He's always been fond of pirates, so it's all good.
