Box I just pulled this up from the BU website.

Bears take 1st road trip under Drew

After the tragic events of the summer, Baylor coach Scott Drew is glad that he got to play the first five games at the Ferrell Center.

Taking over a basketball program is hard enough, but it was especially difficult following the death of Baylor forward Patrick Dennehy, probation and the transfers of Lawrence Roberts, John Lucas and Kenny Taylor this summer.

The Bears needed time to pull things together without the distractions of the road. Baylor will hit the road for the first time this season against North Texas tonight at 7 at the Super Pit in Denton.

"We'd prefer to play them all at home," Drew said. "But now that we're going on the road we know we've got to be mentally tough and be ready to perform. We'll have to go out there and win it because no one's going to give it to you on the road."

Throughout this season, the Baylor players might have to deal with insults from road crowds following the events of the summer. Former Baylor player Carlton Dotson is currently in the McLennan County Jail awaiting trial after being charged with the murder of Dennehy.

"If you're out there competing, you shouldn't be worrying about what the crowd is saying," Drew said. "All you can do is put your faith in people and hope they'll be fair and use good judgment."

North Texas (2-2) could give Baylor problems because of its depth. The Mean Green uses 10 players who average double-figure minutes per game. The Bears will only have seven scholarship players since forward Harvey Thomas hasn't been cleared to play.

After losing consecutive games at Lamar and Southern, North Texas pounded Division III Hardin-Simmons, 109-49, Saturday night at the Super Pit.

"Playing so many guys isn't necessarily by design," said North Texas coach Johnny Jones. "A lot of them just haven't separated themselves yet. I think we're making progress, but we're still trying to find the right combinations."

The Mean Green's leading scorer is former McGregor High School star Michael DeGrate, who is averaging 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. DeGrate, a 6-8 senior forward, began his college career at Baylor in 2000 before transferring to McLennan Community College as a sophomore.

"Michael has been good for this program on and off the court," Jones said. "He's really a good senior leader for this team. He's a great athlete who can really run and shoot."

The Bears improved to 3-2 with Saturday's 97-72 win over Division II Midwestern State. The most encouraging sign for Baylor was the emergence of 6-10 center R.T. Guinn, who scored a season-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

"R.T. can be such an asset to this team because he's hard to match up against," said Baylor point guard Matt Sayman. "He's not your traditional center because he can shoot the three as well as post up inside."

The Bears shot a season-high 55.2 percent against Midwestern State, but continued their high turnover trend with 21.

"Any time you shoot such a high percentage, you're doing some things well," Drew said. "I'm pleased with our effort, but we need to improve our execution.

Box, you know good and well that these Bears can't beat your Screamin' Eagles! :)

I'm not sure Baylor is as bad as everyone thinks but once conference play rolls around, they'll have their share of drubbings. Hope they can get another win in early for you! GL

X2Man -- overnight line at Oly was PK while other books had it -1...now -1.5 at Oly. I saw that Oly put up a total of 162.5 on the game (they obviously mixed it up with TX-AZ game) and then realized it about two minutes later.

Box -- I'm going with you on this...I put down a big sum at PK and I"ll have a nice middle if line continues to move...I see a few 2's out there. Yes, I love Italian...maybe later in the season in New Haven? Good luck...don't see anyone on Baylor but I see the line moving their way...that's a good sign.

Box, wish you the best of luck with this play. When I saw the Bad News Bears last week I told myself never to bet on them again. If u break this team down u really only have three potential scorers, Thomas, Kid, and Rt Guinn. All the other guys just stand outside the perimeter passing the ball to each other waiting for one of the three to get an open look. I know this is North Texas and they really haven't play anyone but being on the road and giving up chalk with these bear is asking for trouble.

Baylor -1 over North Texas.Line has moved to -1.5 now but it won't make a difference.
It is baylors 1st road game and they are 2-8 away and have lost 3 straight.Makes no difference. This is about matchups and talent.
Baylor does have 5 or 6 players. The rest are walk ons.The other nite they got a lot of press about finishing the game with 5 walk ons .
But Baylor is way better then NT.Their front line of 6'10 Gunn, 6'9 Swanson and 6'8 superstar Thomas the juco transfer.Thomas is avg 19 pts a game,8 bds,can pass the ball and can stick a 3.He is dominating everyone.Gunn inside game will give NT big time matchup problems.Kidd is the 6'4 shooter who scored 26 pts in the Smoo loss.He hit 6 tre's.Sayman is avg 9 pts and 6 bds.
Baylor does not have a lot of depth but they have 6 players that can play.Of course when the B-12 season starts they will be in trouble but if Thomas can continue to do what he is doing they will shock a few people. This team can shoot the 3's,rebound.and play good perimeter defense. They do turn the ball over a lot. They shoot 68% Ft.
Little Drew is making his debut but if he is half his father he'll be a good coach.
North Texas is rebuilding. They lost Davis who did everything for them lyr including driving the away bus.DeGrate is there top player back and he played for BU a few yrs back.Jones is their 2nd leading scorer with 6'10 Barnett.Hopkins and Rodgers aren't bad but so far they haven't really scored a lot.Mitchell and Harris have picked up the slack.
But NT cannot rebound. They cannot shoot 3's.They are 24-81 29%.And thats against North Ok St and Southern. They are shooting 93-224 for a 41% FG avg.FT are 63%.
They have no post defense.Barnett is slow and has no "ups".Degrate is a slasher and the only true scorer. He had 13 pts lyr in NT's loss to Baylor.
NT is 2-2 and lost to Southern and Lamar. They beat NW Ok and pummeled Hardin Simmons an NAIA team.
Tonite there playing at the Super pit in Denton. It holds about 8,000 and around 1500 people will be there. Its finals week and we do study in denton. They should move the game across the street to the real 'Pit" that seats 4,000 and NT could beat Kentucky if the crowd showed up.those were the days.1969..Louisville is ranked 13th,undefeated,and NT won 98-80.We went 14-0 at home.Ahhhhh..Sorry
Baylor is a better team.NT's defense is hurting. They have no one to stop Gunn inside. But he is not the problem.Thomas could have a field day.Depth,Playing away from home for the 1st time and not taking care of the ball are BU's weakness's.
But NT can't shoot, can't play defense, has no true scorers.Cannot stop anybody in the paint. And couldn't hit a 3 vs D-2 teams or NAIA teams.
baylor almost beat Smoo last week. They lost 66-62 and with 2 minuts left in the game was leading at Smoo.
Baylor has beaten NT 4 straight times and 11 of last 12.
Enough said....This is NT's 1st game on Vegas lines. They don't know them yet. After tonite they will.
Baylor wins this game by double digits.

Illi -5.5 over Prov
Dee and Williams.Powell,Augustine,Smith, etc Illi plays tough defense, rebounds well, are to athletic and more greyhounds.Gomes Kabba and co are overmatched.Illi wins this by 10.I think prov. stays with them for awhile but then should pull away for an easy win..

Farifield -9.5 over Marist..Stags frontline of Gai and Thompson should dominate the Foxes.Maxwell is playing great.Gds matchup even.McClurkin is there only inside player.
ASU -7 over temple...Moore can shoot from anywhere.Go out and stop him and there is Diogu inside, outside, everywhere.

DePaul -4.5 should handle Ohio

Sw Mizzou -7 over SD....wish I had time on this game...Mizzou wins this by 10 or more

Baylor.....16 boxes....biggest,strongest play...love play...skip the rest below....I'll hibernate from here if I lose this .But capp it yourselves.
SW Mizzou.....6 boxes
ASU...............5
Illinois..........4
Fairfield and Depaul.......3

azjeff...to me thats always a bad sign.
cooz..felt the same way.But it's North Texas's 1st game.My feeling is "I know more then they do right now".Tomr they will catch up with me though.
But if NT wins this then they have beaten my bare ass.
F. Monk..Lyr NT was 1-8 ats at home. They always gave up more pts then they scored. Went 1-4 as a dog at home,0-4 as a fav at home.
We were terrible lyr and lost our top scorer, rebounder, passer,FT shooter,3 pt shooter and like I said our "bus driver" all in one player..Davis.

x2man...your right but we cannot stop anybody or score.NT beat NWOSU 57-47.Lost to Southern 75-58.So they scored 57 and 58 pts vs those teams. Then lost to Lamar and Billy Tubbs 88-72 in a running game. You know Tubbs...Then beat hardin Simmons 108-40.
Baylor is by no means a powerhouse.Losing their top 3 players, etc. But they have enough to handle the mean green tonite.
GL,and thanks for adding to this post.
If I lose this game the Box and the bears will be hibernating somewhere near the banks of the Hudson River..
