Looking for an obscure stat - I thought one of you guys may know the answer to this...

What is the highest BCS ranked team in the history of the BCS NOT to have been invited to a BCS bowl game?

I'm sure this has happened in the past (as it will this year to #7 Wisconsin) - just wondering how many times and how high a team would have been ranked and gotten taken out of the mix?

Does anybody have any stats on this?

I have no idea of the highest ranked team snubbed by the BCS in the past.

I think LSU may be overlooked this season @ #5, if Arky wins this weekend. I feel Cap 1 Bowl will take Fla, and ND will head out to face Mich under this scenario.

The purpose of my post wasn't to start a debate on who is ranked where and who should go where...

I just wanted to see how often (if it ever has happened) and how highly ranked a team has been in the past and not gotten a BCS invite, that's all...

Oregon was #5 last season and I believe they (or another Pac-10 school) was as high as #4 without an invite. Texas was once #5 as well, I think.

ESPN and Fox Sports have good histories on BCS rankings. While you're on there you can check out how great the Bucks are going to be once we get healthy this year ;).

Thanks for the info!

Good hearing from you again Nick... Let's hope the Bucks get it going soon - I still have season tickets and it's been a loooong year already so far!

In terms of BCS ranking it is Cal and Oregon at 5. Think Texas was 5 as well in the Simms years but just dont remember for sure. A BCS ranking of 4 has always been a mandatory bid unless, which of course is just about impossible, you are 3 or 4 and have 2 other conference teams at 1,2, or 3.

Mags,

Good to see you around, too. I really have cut back on gambling since we last chatted because it just took too much time and concentration. I would spend hours handicapping and watching games. Even the years I made a profit it wasn't worth it. Maybe someday I'll learn to just have some fun with it and be less serious about it :).

I still have faith in the Bucks. The east is God-awful and if we get a healthy squad we can make a run.
