personally, i find it amusing, but i'm kind of insensitive. not racially, just in general.

well all i can say is were is the line drawn. if it is a racial slur then why and i ask why is it politically incorrect for whitey to use it but ok for any black too? if the word is soooooooooo degrading in the black communities eyes then why is whenever i go somewhere i hear it more then regular english. not only that look at the lyrics on most hip hop or rap. you can't have your cake and eat it too.

That poor guy obviously meant nothing bad by it. I think in another decade or so the word won't mean anything bad in any form: Nigga, Niggah, (gulp) Nigger. There's been a lot of hate historically in the latter version and I certainly understand that, but more an more it's just becoming another word.

I like the way the news has to say "the N word" when reporting on it. ....Sort of trivializes it right there.

Yes, of course - I think "coon" was the favorite term from from my original home territory. I liked when Forrest Gump thought the guy was talking about raccoons and said his momma would just get a broom and scurry them off the porch.

Never heard the 'eggplant' one until 'True Romance' when Dennis Hopper said Christopher Walken was "part eggplant", then Walken did the ol Sicilian kiss of death and shot him.

'shoehead' was another one where I was raised, not sure of how it originated, maybe shoeshine boys? There's a street in my hometown, 'Division Street'. North of it is where most all blacks lived. They have since moved to all parts of this small town. 'Blacks only' swimming pool and park along with a black nightclub and liquor store.

My best friend in college happened to be black. Grew up mostly in Abilene, TX. He remembered as a lil' kid (like 6 or 7) heading out for trick or treating on Halloween. Before he could even get to his first house, a good ol boy pulls up in his pickup and says "what's yer costume? dressed up as nigger?" or something like that. My friend just lowered his head and walked home.
