We were on the last couple miles of a 13 mile hike. Saw the bear coming down the trail toward us... I yelled at it to let it know we were there as instructed in the 'Beware of Bears' pamphlet they handout at the ranger station when you enter the park. It looked at me but just kept walking toward us... about 50ft away. I knew there were some hikers about a qtr mile behind us. I stopped a couple times to see if it was still coming and it was... not running but still walking along at same pace. When we reached the other hikers (2 guys and a girl in there 20s) I told them about the bear and they were excited. One of them had bear repellent which was reassuring. So we stop and wait... when the bear becomes visible they start taking pictures. When the bear see's the group it left the trail and wandered down towards the lake. I'll see if I can pinpoint location with Google Maps and post link.

Here's the coordinates... you can paste in google maps:
48.477107,-113.396459

We hiked from the camp ground to No Name Lake and back. Stayed 3 nights in Many Glacier Hotel. Killed a bat flying around in our room the last night. Definitely the most beautiful place I've ever been. 'Going to the Sun' road opened the day we got there... summer solstice.

You were close to :canada1 border....just sayin'

Yeah just a few miles away. Thought next time we'd fly into Calgary and hang there for a few days too then try the Canadian side of the park. Maybe tryout the Prince of Wales Hotel:
