Just don't see it. I have them in the 6-8 win range. Believe me, I would love 10 wins out of these guys, but in what I think is the toughest division in football, it's quite a challenge.
Everyone seems to be quite high on the "upgrades" to the offensive line this year. For starters, Jermon Bushrod is considered an upgrade at RT, but don't forget he protected Drew Brees last year. Brees gets rid of the ball as fast as anyone off the snap, and everyone knows Cutler hangs on to the ball too long. Kyle Long is an exciting RG, but I was pretty sure Carimi would be a staple of the offensive line for years. It's simply just too hard to tell. Throw in an injury to Webb or Garza, and its the same OL circus rotation that people have bitched about for the last couple years.
Bennett is a nice addition when they had virtually nothing out of the TE spot a year ago. I don't think Jeffery is a No. 2 receiver, but if Trestman uses the TE and the RB as much as people say he does in the passing game, it shouldn't be that much of a handicap.
Secondary and defensive line will keep them in ballgames just as in years past. I love Major Wright, and consider him an underrated safety. Bostic could be good....but a rookie MLB. Don't see teams being able to run or pass with much success this year.
So what's the kicker? You nailed it with the schedule. If they don't click with Trestman right off the bat, they will lose some games. 8 of the first 10 can be considered tough match ups. Lets say they go 5-5, can they go 4-2 the last six?
Just my two cents. Cheers!
