NFL suspended Bears WR Alshon Jeffery four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
An already disastrous contract year just hit rock bottom. Jeffery will be eligible to return in Week 15. Plagued by constant minor injuries, Jeffery hasn't missed a game this season, but has been ineffective, scoring only one touchdown and failing to hit the 100-yard mark since Week 1. Playing on the franchise tag, he just drastically reduced his free agent earning power. Jeffery turns 27 in February.
The Bears will play out the string of a circling-the-drain season with Eddie Royal and Cameron Meredith as their top two wideouts. Marquess Wilson (foot, PUP) should return some time in the next 2-3 weeks.
Coach John Fox said Monday the Bears will stick with Jay Cutler as their starting quarterback.
After playing one of his best games in years against the Vikings on Monday Night Football in Week 9, Cutler went right back in the tank in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay, committing four turnovers in arguably the worst quarterback performance of the week. Having lost Alshon Jeffery (PEDs) for the next month, Cutler will now be tasked with an inferior pass-catcher corps in upcoming games against the Giants, Titans, 49ers, and Lions. Cutler is playing out the string for a team he won't be a member of in 2017.
