Ben smart? Or just being Ben? I would say through out the years more Hollywood folks have taken time to entertain the soldiers then any other. And no they did not have to say anything Oscar night. No matter if they had said peace to all and god bless our troops. There would be those that would say. See the bastards mention peace.

Sounds like Smurph didn't get a whole lot of tail in the 80s and blames the hair band with the dreamy frontman. I don't how many less notches on my belt I would have w/o the music of Jon Bongiovi, but suffice it to say it would be more than 4. It says right in the song "I've seen a MILLION faces, and I've rocked them ALL" Not a hundred, not 10,000, not a few, not some. A MILLION and ALL.

And off-topic, but how can Ben Stein write a whole article, and not thank the troops once? Scumbag!

Hey, you're right! He DOES say that he rocked them ALL. Also, I think that you're right about Smurphs problems. Something very tramatic happened to him as a Bon Jovi song came on the radio back in the 80's and I have to believe that it was sexual in nature. Perhaps 'something' wasn't operating properly as he tried to get his groove on with Livin' on a Prayer playing in the backround? I'm sure that would be frustrating, but there's no reason to be so bitter about Bon Jovi. It wasn't their fault! In fact, it was probably their music that got the chick in the mood in the first place.

Saw a great Saved By The Bell this morning. It was when the gang was working at that beach resort for the summer. Zack and Stacy (Leah Remini as the resort owners daughter) were hanging out and Stacys boyfriend Craig from Boston unexpectedly showed up. Pissed Zack off. Then Craig cheated during the ATV race when he bumped Zack and caused him to lose. That was it! Stacy put him on the next plane out of there and gave him his fraternity pin back. Then Zack and Stacy said 'I love you' to each other. It was something else.

Sounds similar to a lot of people on this board anytime the administration does/says something positive (pointing more towards that times when they are accurate ;) )

I don't think anybody here has a problem if this admin says something positive if it is the least bit grounded in facts.

I don't think you have a problem with it, but there are some here that just think everything this admin does is wrong simply because this admin did it. Actually, I will predict that there will be some that will come in this thread and defend that stance (maybe not now because I have stated this). Very similar to the numb skulls that think everything Clinton did was wrong. It's just not a healthy attitude and doesn't lead to progress for anyone.

It is true. I cannot deny it. I was torn between worlds in the 80's and I was not a confident individual yet. Christianity was one bad influence. Popular music like Bon Jovi was another. I did not yet learn to overlook either. At least there were bands like U2 that I could almost fully embrace without feeling like a poser. They had something to say that was actually interesting. I won't even get into the less known acts or even worse the ones with gay people in them .....OK OK I gotta give The Smiths some props. And then there was the sweet release of the 90's. Without that, I might be like Manson or Palehose right about now. Any way, Bon Jovi really does suck ass. I accept that I am not like the majority who basically have no taste. That's OK. I'm good enough, smart enough, and doggonit - people like me. :com:

When the VP says we are in the "final throes" it really makes it hard for me to believe anything he says from that point on.

At least Bush is somewhat owning up to the monumental problem we have in Iraq right now. ....See - I didn't bash him.

I don't know. I think that episode sends a bad message. I think Stacy is too dependent. She should have taken a couple weeks on her own to sort things out before plunging right into a serious relationship so quickly.

Yeah, Rumsfeld is still tap-dancing, trotting his generals out there to say how well things are going, but at least in W's latest speeches some amount of acknowledgement has been slipped in there.

I don't agree. It was Stacys independence and strength that allowed her to let go of her long-time boyfriend Craig. And she didn't have a couple weeks to figure anything out because the summer was 'ending' in two days and she was going back home.

So she hops right into a long distance "I love you" relationship? Bad idea. I've done that before. Now she'll be hamstrung and you know Zack's gonna mess around on her. In the long run, she'll become even more co-dependent and probably make the mistake of letting Craig get some booty calls off her.

Yes, the booty calls with Craig are a concern and I understand what you mean about the long distance 'I love you' sendoff. They really bonded over the course of the summer though and they might just make it until next summer when the gang returns for work.

I don't think Zack will cheat on her. Sure, he'll flirt like he always does, but overall he usually does the right thing.

I take issue with your diagnosis of her being co-dependent. She is fiercely independent and in that very episode stood up to her dad and threatened to move in with Lisa. Her dad didn't want her to hang with Zack and they got into a huge fight. She chose love and love won out.

OK OK, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. I think I understand the moving in with Lisa threat though. Odds are, Stacy's dad is racist. She was trying to get under his skin and perhaps use that as leverage to make Zack seem like a more favorable alternative. Kind of like - "If I don't get this small thing I want, then I'll show you." Just wait til she brings Sydney Pontier home for dinner. You know that day will happen.

Zack will cheat on her though. We only see the flirting. It's kind of like those reality shows where the cameras stop rolling for the hookup. Zack is a chick magnet, he can't say no everytime. Eventually, even if his intentions are good he will give in.

Just faound out Screech's real character name is Samuel Powers. Holy porn name!

You may be on to something with the racist angle. Even though Lisa is light skinned, I do believe that it still would have upset Stacys dad.

Zack may be a chick magnet, but i'm sure he will break up with Stacy before he does anything. Do not compare Zack to the reality show whores. He is not like that.

And what is this all about:

"Just found out Screech's real character name is Samuel Powers."

Just found out? How? Did somebody call you with this information? Were you just now doing some research on the show? What's going on here?

Just found out in a relative sense ....like from a while ago on the show, but just a blip on the overall timeline. I never knew it til then. It really defines him. With a stud name like Samuel Powers, he should have not tried to dress like a mime and instead played up his name. I have sympathy for screech kinda like Anthony Michael Hall's character in Breakfast Club. ...This all relates to the Bon Jovi/80's discussion. Screech and the BC brain weren't gettin any, neither was I.

Anyway, you are right - Zack is definitely better than reality show whores. That was wrong of me to go there. The whole point of SBTB is that it was entirely superior to the filth we have now.

As for the breaking up before booty angle, I don't know. I think he'll at least be involved in Bill Clinton style of relations, or a fingerbang occurance or something. No way he stays pure.

Hang in there, AR - I've almost brought us full circle. The Breakfast Club reference will no doubt lead to Ferris Bueller, then - voila - we are back to Ben Stein. As Bush would say, "trust me". I think you send a bad message to the forum by not hanging in there with us. Ben Stein is on the march - we will liberate him very soon.

You know what, you're right Al. Let's get back on track here.

Everyone who thinks the actors should have mentioned the troops, say 'aye'!

I'll go first: aye!
