This is what Ben Stein wanted to say...

These people lost everything? Most had nothing to begin with. Now their public assistance check stopped arriving and they are pissed. I don't see any bankers or lawyers walking the streets bitching about no one helping them. 98% of the people with common sense moved north days before the destruction.

VERY WELL STATED STOMIE.

The big easy (SOCIALIST WELLFARE) society is getting what its crooked polititians have had comming for 50 years.

WHO PAYS....hmmm WE DO

WHO SUFFERS....hmmm THE POOR PEOPLE THAT RELY ON THIS CRAP.

Its a joke if you think government will take care of you under any circumstance in these situations.

Get a grip and appreciate the tax laws that have been passed lately to support individuals who drive our economy.

People that wanna work will find a way VS. lowliife sponges that will get what the straw divies out that month.

GO JETS.

yes, kosar, i may be able to agree with you on certain aspects, but there are others that I just can't come to. but it still seems like you expected it to be a well-oiled operation immediately. I feel that a relief effort like that on that grand of scale would have been just a different major disaster (comparing to not having full blown relief efforts for the first few days). I also think it would have been harder to correct if we would have started the efforts on the wrong foot.

I don't know what the best solution is, but I do agree that the blunt of the blame should not go to the federal government.

sorry about posting in this thread. someone mentioned dropping water again here, so i responded here.

News flash bush is not God

It is now quite clear that the two worst events in American history have occurred under this president's watch. Even if you don't blame Bush for 9/11, you have to fault him for his response to the same. 5 years later and Alqaeda and Osama still functioning at a high level. Now Hurricane Katrina comes and for 4 days before it hit we were inundated with scenarios of New Orleans taking a catastrophic blow, yet the Bush administration says they had no way of knowing that the levees would be compromised. Now I read and watch news a little more than the average person, but I have heard about the possibility of a Cat 3 or above storm destroying the levees and the city being flooded out for 20 years now. They do a report on cnn every hurricane season on this very scenario. The national guard and what is left of our Navy should have been headed into the area prior to the storm not days after. I agree it's not fair to ask Bush to be god and stop a hurricane, but would it be too much to ask him to be a little more like Rudy and a little less like himself and actually lead a nation when it needs him? A presidency is judged not by what has occurred, but by how that president reacted to what has occurred. I'm still waiting for this president to take accountability one time and be a leader. I won't hold my breath, the thousands of people in New Orleans who drowned tried that and it doesn't work.

My two cents

getting back on topic.....I guess you whiny liberals can insert your next coordinated attack on the president below.....a day without complaining would kill you guys wouldn't it?? Blame blame blame. Blame blame blame. Cry about EVERYTHING. Critisize and insult. The liberal of today. No wonder you keep losing elections. The majority of Americans do not respect complaining crybabies who have no alternative plans, solutions or ideas.

So far all I have heard is negative blaming and not one alternative plan for hurricane relief. Hell, we are still waiting to hear what the democrats alternative plan is on fighting terror but I guess John Kerry is still trying to think of one.

Dude the us govt is planning for serious chit and the facts are out there. This disaster was an example of poor local government response of the statewide variety.

Poor local crimebased politics doesnt help tossed in with in the dismall state govt.

Federal assistance was rejected for 24 hours so she could..(THINK ABOUT IT)

I dont care who did what. They did not do a good job. That woud be all of them. If there was a plan they sure looked like no one new it. For sure the Fema guy was lost. And he was to help take charge. He didn't have to wait for 24 hours. My guess he becomes Bushs wipping boy and may be gone soon.

So Cal
The State of Louisiana and the mayor and past mayors of New Orleans have been well aware that their city was below sea level and they had known it for years. They also knew that it was inevitable that a storm of some type would hit the state sooner or later. What was their plan? Why didn't the mayor of New Orleans have a plan? It was their responsibility long before it became the feds problem.
