I have nothing against Netflix at all, but Blockbuster is the lowest form of scum company out there and so arrogant.
When Redbox was announced as coming to McDonald's, BB responded by saying we are about as worried about them renting dvd's as they would be if we started selling hamburgers. I knew that was foolish when they said it.

I have been a part of 2 class action lawsuits(Both Fair trade suits back in the day) against Blockbuster and got paid from settlements in both cases although the lawyers are the only ones who really cashed in.
One case had around 250 stores in the lawsuit against the studios and BB wanting $250M. Warner started to panic and agreed to not offer BB any special direct price deals and paid $16M settlement. I got $12K out that $16M. THe lawyers cleaned up. The VERY next day after that settlement the judge threw the case out. Sucked for Warner.
A few years ago the lawyers decided to go after BB again for a same thing but smaller amount. Lawyers said BB settled in days to get get rid of this and not pay lawyers and I got excited that some cash was coming my way again. Turns out the settled for next to nothing. A little over a $1M and I got just over $1,200.

Well I guess most Netflix users still have their pants around their waists based on what people are saying in here.

I am going to monitor what people take from the store the next few days.
So far in 2.5 hours today I have had 7 renting customers taking a total of 15 titles. Out of those 15 titles 13 have come out in the last 28 days. The other 2 were porn. :mj07:
I have right at 10,000 catalogs to choose from.

I somewhat disagree with the majority here, if your paying a monthly premium to netflix, they should have obligation to provide current new releases. These are already sometimes 1 year after the theater release. That's what your paying for. Just curious how long of a lag before HBO or ppv. If redBox or netflix aren't going to provide the movies before HBO or on demand, why wouldn't you just use those services?

I think it all depends on the subscribers movie watching habits. I have no interest in seeing New Releases as soon as they come out......if I absolutely have to see it - then that means I will buy the Blu-Ray....

This is like going to Outback on a Wednesday and ordering a steak only to be told that we only serve the steak on the weekend.

You are paying the premium at Netflix because right now they can offer you everything that others can and more(meaning a huge catalog selection).
The offering everything others can is about to be taken away.

That and that alone was my only reason for starting this thread.
They are removing a prime part of the business because no matter what people say getting new releases week of release is very big part of the industry. Yet the price of subscription is not going down.
Saying they were bending you over was for Cie Grant's pleasure. :142smilie

interesting

The attorneys must have found a gold mine in blockbuster--
They sued for late fee charges for patrons back around 2000. People were to received coupons-(the big winners up to $18 worth)--the attorney's 9.25 million.

Not sure if I had any "loved ones" cash or not. :)

Netflix considers new releases a money loser in reality as they cost more for them to purchase than catalog titles and they are not getting any cssh return on each rental like brick and mortar stores do.
I just don't see how this go be anything but a negative for them. It sure as hell is by no means a positive in signing up with them.
I have seen other sites with people saying same thing as on here and others saying goodbye to Netflix.
Paying $20 a month for catalog rental titles and not even the option of new stuff?

No, I agree with you that the delay would be a negative for them. I'm sure a lot of people will be pissed. I guess I just don't see 4 weeks as being a big deal. It's not like it's 6 months or something. I pay $18 a month for unlimited movies, and I probably watch about 15 movies/shows a month. So I'm paying about $1.20 a month to have movies delivered to my door. I don't know of any video store that comes close to $1.20 a movie, and there's the added annoyance of having to pick the movie up and drop it off. When you live in a city with shitty weather like I do, the convenience of not having to pick up and drop off the movies is HUGE.

Others may disagree, but when you provide the service Netflix does I think you get a pass on things like a slight delay on new releases. If they charged, say, $50 a month for unlimited movies, then I think it would be a bigger deal.

One last comment about Netflix... a while back they had a problem with their computers so everyone's DVDs got screwed up for 5 or 6 days. Obviously, this pissed a lot of people off. Netflix knocked $1 off of everyone's subscription price going forward. $1 per person might not sound like much, but that's millions of dollars a year they're losing simply to right a wrong. Most companies would just send an apology e-mail, if that.

I'll tell you what. Someone has got to have quite the porn addiction to not get enough online and have the need to rent them :mj07:

The sad thing about our porn section is outside of the celeb porn such as Hilton,Kardashian,Amy Fisher,Pam Anderson type the #1 porn rental is Granny Treats.

I bought it for $3 and it has made $386 in 2 years when I showed my friend the other day in our system when he didn't believe me.

Sick bastards. It amazes me how our porn still goes so well with internet.

Trust me when I say you don't want to find the cover. :142smilie

I am pretty sure it is a compilation dvd but can't confirm.
Not my cup of tea.

I think this is a link to it but no pic.
The studio is right.
To put this in the category of MILF is rough. Their daughters are probably like 45.:142smilie

kegray - how much are your copies.

My business partner used to own three video stores back when we were in college (he started them from the ground up while in school). I think I remember back then, it was like $80 per copy. Is that still the case?

Yeah back in the day before the sellthrough began VHS would run in the high $60's per copy. We $1.99 a rental and made so much profit, but that was before internet and Sellthrough(Best Buy type sells).
I still remember one of the first sellthrough titles at Target was Total Recall.

These days we pay around $18 a copy on dvd. Walmart sells them cheaper(around $16) first week, but they are paying that or more to get them as well.
They consider them loss leaders to get you in the store and hope you buy something else in exchange for them breaking even.
The studios don't like it which is why in the Sunday ads you will see some say LOW PRICE because studios will not allow them to advertise under a certain price(I think it is sitting at $15.99 right now for new release as lowest).
So if you see LOW PRICE in a Sunday ad then it is going to be $14.99 probably.
