I will now comment on the Bengals even though I did not get to watch most of the game. I predicted in the preseason that Akili Smith will get multiple starts by year's end (I may have said at least one). I am now changing that to he will be the starter by Week 8. With the players that they have at every position on offense, there is no way that this team should not get into the endzone. Kitna will be playing heavily by Week 3, and the team will be promoting Akili back to the healm shortly thereafter. Once Akili is calling the shots again, the Bengals will win at least 50% of their remaining games.

I made this comment after the first week of regular season play. I truly believe that this Bengals team is only a quarterback away from being a threat at least. I may have over-stated it when I said they would win at least 50% of their remaining games once Akili starts, but I do think they will start putting up good numbers. Not only will Akili do a better job passing the ball, but he also gives another running threat to take some heat off of Dillon.

I am surprised that the number is only 7 against Tampa after their win over the Rams, so I wouldn't recommend jumping on just yet. BUT I would also stay far away from the Bucs this weekend as well.

Any comments?

I admit I thought the Bengals would be competitive this season. Is Akili the answer? Didn't he really only play one season at Oregon? On paper their defense wasn't supposed to be bad and they have a durable RB, but Akili really hasn't shown anything to give any hope that he's better than the other two guys. I'm probably passing the game, certainly not going to lay more than a TD w/Tampa on the road after the big Monday night win and short week.

I love the Bucs here. Only giving 7?

The Bucs offense has shown some flashes, and the defense is sick right now. They should put it together in this game, I am surprised the line is not 8-9 or higher.

Bucs 28 Cincy 3

The Bucs have a terrible record in recent years laying more than 4; something like 9-20 ATS. Dungy may have been the main reason for that with his conservative style when the Bucs had the lead but I'd be wary of a backdoor here.

My 2 cents:
Akili is way more athletic, showed signs of improvement in preseason. Now, after 3 weeks of woe will the 1 string accept him as their leader? He should've been the starter from week1, but you have to justify paying to backups starter money don't you? This team is hampered by one man: Mike Brown:mad: :moon:

No spanky, but I love them almost as much as I posted loving TB to win 26-11 last night. Only 3 points off, not too bad I guess. Of course not all the plays I love will win, if I was hitting 100%, why would I come here? Do all the plays you love always come in? Didnt think so.

Since I cant tell how much jest or taunt was in that  , I can only say go ahead and put together your "angle". My picks are up on my page now for next week and any props or late plays I post first, then update. Hey what do I care, you can fade my posted NFL picks all you want. I dont mind taking shit from people over email who I know follow my picks every week, its the person who plays one pick that loses and suddenly thinks I'm an a-hole for posting the reasons I liked Team A over Team B then Team A loses.

If you follow my picks and you think I am a handicapper worth playing on, then do so, if you think I'm a fade, you can do that too. Its no skin off my nose either way. But if you went the fade route, you'ld be 17-32 on the year instead of the other way around, which I hope you wont do! So keep track of and follow all my picks for a while instead of just one losing one from two weeks ago to see if you like them, I think in the end you'll be a happy person :D

I wish you luck regardless as our goal here should be to make money!

Easy guys. There's a no-bashing rule in all threads that I start.:D

Being a contrarian player (or I try to be), I think that the line being only 7 leans towards the Bengals. Who's not going to want to lay 7 against the Bungles? They just beat the Rams (even though they are dropping like a rock in public perception) by 12 (?).

I think a mere TD would look too good to the general public. I think this line will go up, so if you like TB you should get on now. If you like the Bengals, I think you could get a little more than the endzone you're getting now. But of course, I have been wrong MANY times in the past.

ace--congrats on that record so far. keep up the great work!
spank--play nice!

Ace, Just one of my many 'little jabs' I love to throw around just to 'LIGHTEN " things up a tad...
I don't follow anybodies picks or plays really. I do my own 'homework' and post my stuff too . Posted plays to date are 8 and 2 ,so I ain't going to bitch a lot. I got a pile this week, normally don't come up with 9 plays, but you have to be DISIPLINED, and if 'my numbers' say I have to position myself on all these games, I REFUSE to question myself !!!
Anyway, good luck on you 'action',you are obviously doing very well this year, keep it rolling. You were saying how you called the final last night (NICE), it's funny,as I called DALLAS to beat TiTANS 20-13 and posted it HERE. Boy I got a hard time at first, but who got the Money Line???You got it,it was a SWEET cash !!!!
Good luck.....Spanky......;)

On the course!
Don't believe for a second that Smith is the answer for this team. This team has scored 16 points in three games, and that is no "quarterback" problem. That is a system problem.

Cincy is a hapless 0-3, and drastic things begin to happen at that point. (The qb change is one.) Another, would be a change in the system. You stick with your game plan for the first 2 or 3 weeks, but at that point......you need to change it up. It ain't working!

The Bungles are a team of little discipline, as their penalties show. This will not change in a week. Tampa Bay is a much stronger team, and this will be proven on Sunday. 7 points might seem like a tall number, but is it really? I mean......against a team that can't get the job done? They give up close to 30 a game, and score less than 6.

Tampa Bay will not "play down" to these boys, and will hold them in check, Smith or no Smith. The total has went from 36 to 34, and that will drop even more. I think the line will stay at 7, and a person might want to buy it down to 6', but the play here is Tampa Bay, in a lower scoring game.

Bucs 23
Cincy 10

I would rate this out at 2 units on the 6'

yyz--I completely agree that 7 is not a large number on this game. I would think by looking at this season' sperformance, it is very low. I will not be playing this game because Akili may or may not jump-start the offense. Whether or not he does says nothing that the defense will finally live up to the hype this week.

The only reason I would play this game is that it seems like the books are looking for Bucs money. That is just my very un-professional and untrained opinion. Who knows what in the hell is going to happen in this. I sincerely think it could be anywhere from a Cincy upset to a Bucs complete 30-40 point blowout.

After all is said and done, I don't think this game should be played.

Agree all the ATS numbers point Cincys way.

However, I dont see them scoring against this TB defense. If StL couldnt get up for it and score with their dogs, where does Cincy think they will get it from? Just from playing at home on turf?

6 - 7 - 3 Cincy has scored in their first 3. TB could pitch a shutout here. Definitely a letdown for TB though, wary of a backdoor cover here.

Give me one good reason to take the Bungles here. Just one! I've seen the posts above, and I can't believe the hype. The point at hand is this,.....the bungles are terrible! PERIOD! They have a quarterback who hasn't seen his helmet in 2 years. They've got the worst receiving corps in the bigs,.... and people think Akili Smith is going to be the savior? Come on folks!! The Bucs just spanked the Rams on Monday night, and will certainly crush this team with non-stop pressure on the quarterback. Take the Bucs! The real hype is here in Tampa Bay, where the talk is about returning to the NFC Championship, and a lose to the Bengals isn't even a thought. Bucs by plent!

Yah, they'll win on defense, but they'll win outright, and convincing. 3 weeks straight!

I tend to agree with Dawgball about the Bungles. I think their defense held up very well against the Falcons, despite the fact that they were on the field for the majority of the game. Their not the best defense in the league, but they're definitely competitive. As far as the offense goes, they could use a better quarterback (understatement of the forum). I thought that when Kitna came in the game, he threw the ball pretty well. It was the lousy hands of the receivers that kept them making big plays. I witnessed dropped ball after dropped ball. I just didn't see the desire there to really stretch out and really go for the ball. They acted like they didn't give a shit whether they won the game or not. I guess both winning and losing are habits that require some learning and practice. If, and a big IF, the receivers and rest of the team can get fired up and put together a good game (particularly, catching the freakin' football), I think they've got a small chance at the upset this week. I mean, come on, how fired up are the Bucs going to be coming into the underachieving Bungles, after their big win against the Rams. I haven't decided if I am going to play the game or not. I am surely not going to give up seven points and take the Bucs. I think the Bengals defense showed a lot of heart in the Falcons game, and they could definitely keep the Bucs west-coast-dink-dink offense in check.

Probably a pass for me. I think the guys in Vegas are right on with this spread.
