Practice.

That's the only way. You will get a feel for it eventually.

A common mistake I see... if not corrected all the practice in the world won't help. It is a basic fundamental of bunker play that is rarely mentioned.

Many will take their normal grip (with club face square) enter sand then open club face by manipulation. Does you no good as you will automatically return club face to square when you swing.
Open club face before gripping it and it will stay open during swing and give you higher/softer trajectory.

Wayne, do u still like to practice in the bunker before your rounds? That's something I started doing (when I played) after watching you that really helped my whole game. :0074

Unlike all my other swings in the bunker I predominantly use my right hand (right handed) to swing. Helped me solve bunkers

On the course!
When you are around the greenside......NEVER hit the ball with your swing.

Fairway bunkers.......Only hit the ball. NEVER hit the sand!

This.

Although easier said than done.

Fairway. Dig in with your spikes, almost a shimmy into the ground, take an extra club up, and choke down a bit. Take a 3/4 swing, and pray. lol.

Green side. Open the sand wedge up a little, and play the ball toward the back of your stance. I tend to make a 3/4 swing as well, and the most important part is the follow through here. taking a hack or bailing out at the end will be sure to hit someone on the green in the ankles.

Yes Sir Clint...great way to warm up as keeps tempo slow and ingrains swinging vs hitting as ball is taken out of equation.

My major prob I run into at least once a year is fighting impulse to hit ball...( 1st move from top is turning shoulders vs starting swing from ground up.)

Classic example: 2years ago Chad was hitting ball 75 yards off tee past us at golf outing and I try to add a little extra and never could get back to normal tempo the 2 days we played. Played terrible for both days.. 1st thing I did when I got back home was hit about 200 bunker shots a for a couple days to regain normal tempo and get rid of impulse to hit ball.

you need to work on more DISTANCE then if you let CHAD hit it 75 yards by you :mj07:
