I haven't checked prices so I could be off. If I wanted a good steak and it had to be downtown I'd go to Andiamo's at The D, Triple George or Hugo's Cellar.

I'm sure you know of the great local steak joints. I loved the Bootlegger near Mandalay Bay. Also it's a chain but Smith and Wolensky near MGM is fairly affordable.

My favorites now are Carnevino, Cut and Gordon Ramsey Steak. Those are 80+ just for the steak though.

I figure if I can buy into a dice game and have it gone in 30 seconds a nice long meal is worth that much too.

While we are talking downtown Vegas, what's your choice of hotel downtown?
Looking at the Golden Nugget but am open to hearing from those of you that have stayed downtown recently. My buddy swears by the Nugget since its been renovated so that's the way we are leaning right now.
Its been 20 years since I've stayed downtown...:scared
I Wouldn't have a clue as to whats available these days....

One of the best parts of staying downtown is that you can get back and forth from your room to the casinos in less than 5 minutes. The Nugget is a very nice property but the walk from Fremont Street to your room could easily be 15 minutes or more depending on what tower you are in. I don't think the rooms are THAT much better either. The pool is great though if that is important to you.

I just stayed at the Golden Gate. The rooms are very small but nice. I would stay there again in a second.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

No wives, just a couple of Vegas rookies along for the trip this year and want to stay downtown for some reason. Out of the 10 of us going, me and one other guy voted for the strip--so rather than be on the strip while the rest of the gang is downtown, we are staying downtown.

Then you can stay anywhere. :00hour

I stay at MSS when I go. Rooms are old, small, but clean. I like the casino there and it's only a couple blocks from Fremont. You would like Boars Head Bar for sure, EVERYBODY does.

We will be in town April 5-10 so the weather may or may not be conducive to going to the pool. The mirage pool opened last year on April 1st and it was 85 when we were there the same time of the year. Water was very cold but after 18 holes of golf it felt really nice. Planning on golfing at least once this trip so a pool would be nice and I hear the Nugget's pool is cool--- a slide through a huge shark tank sounds fun...:00hour
Don't care about the time getting from the casino to my room--its Vegas and it seems all casino floors are miles from the rooms. And I'm not a fan of Freemont Street and most likely won't be spending too much time out on the street anyway. I can found at the sportsbook or the craps table when I'm not sleeping or eating...:SIB
I'll run the Golden Gate past the gang for a potential place to stay...thanks for the suggestion....:0008

Indeed we--or me, can stay any place we choose. What's MSS?

Main Street Station....:0008 Bar is certainly my kind of place judging from the pictures...A LOT cheaper than the Nugget, too.

And walking distance to Binion's steakhouse and pizza rock will be nice, too....:00hour

The brewpub downtown that I haven't made it to will also see my shadow this trip, I'm sure...

Main Street Station, look it up. Probably the most talked about bar downtown.

just did, boss....:0008

Looks like my kind of place...

It is. You'll love the beer too.

You're away from the Fremont commotion but close enough if you want it. Older crowd and a lot of Hawaiians. Fair table game odds and great VP pay tables. Do it. :toast:

I'm in. Texted a couple of the gang and told them what I found for prices vs Golden Nugget and the fact that its a few blocks away from the disaster that is Freemont Street so it will be quiet for sleeping.
I'll be in a sportsbook someplace betting the ponies and sports when I'm not on the golf course so why pay more for a room when I can lose it gambling instead....:00hour

This D-3 championship game has been a lot of fun to watch and now with the onside kick recovery....:SIB
