I think alot of people are overlooking the improvement on the defensive side of the ball for USC. I also think that Troy Polimalu is perhaps the most under rated players in NCAA play. The situation with Palmer is one of the most interesting scenarios in some time. As a USC grad, I would have been happy to see him go prior to this year. Like most other USC fans, we were tired of all the hype and so little production. Then they stiffen the offense line a little; bring in Norm Chow; and voila - Palmer has a great year. I think his chances of earning significant post season honors will be hurt by his previous years of play.

I think the saga of Larry Johnson demonstrates what some of us feel is the importance of strength of schedule. While I admit that such comparisons can sometimes lead to a faulty conclusion, it is interesting to speculate.

Larry Johnson Yards Rushing Against
Michigan/68 OSU/78 Iowa/ 66.......212 total rushing yards

Larry Johnson versus Mich St, Indiana, Northwesters
About 900 rushing yards

Ferdville.....I agree about Johnson's PADDED stats against weak defenses and horrid games against quality defenses......that is why I think McGahee #'s against Fla,Fla St,Tenn,Pitt,BC,and Va Tech...all of whom have good defenses is the reason he is the best player this year!!!!!!!1
