Betting College Basketball ? Time to get serious

What a weird weekend for television viewing in college hoops. With conference races heating up, to be taken seriously as college basketball bettor you have to know the surroundings. While ESPN for the most part does fine work in identify quality matchups, they first are concerned about ratings. And while a lot of people like to watch and wager, do really trite matchups like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and N.C. State and North Carolina really hold anyone?s interest these days, unless you attended those universities, even during rivalry week. We?ll have information on many of the key games that are televised, however we also will inform readers about important contests like those in the Big Sky and Colonial Athletic Conferences, where something is at stake. Are you with me here! I thought so. Lines from Bookmaker.com.

Saturday, Feb. 13

Maryland at Duke (-10, 147.5) 1:00E CBS

Before the season began, the general feeling was the ACC might be more competitive top to bottom than in years. Those beliefs have been prophetic and this will be a matchup that will help sort out the logjam. Maryland (16-6, 10-7 ATS) has nice collection of players, but for them to emerge victorious, forward Landon Milbourne and guard Greivis Vasquez have to be the Terps top point producers. Look for Duke to play rough and do some talking, since Vasquez can get off his game, flapping the lips and being too emotional. Maryland is 16-7 AT in road games when facing a team with a winning record past the midpoint of season and is 5-2 and 5-1 ATS in true away games this season.

Duke (20-4, 15-8 ATS) looked like a tired squad in loss to Georgetown at the end of January, playing four games in 10 days. Now this ACC clash will be their fourth in nine days, at least they will have the crowd support to spur them on. The Blue Devils could really use Kyle Singler to begin filling the bucket with greater regularity, since the team has become too dependent of Jon Scheyer to do everything. Singler has to hit medium and three-point shots to open up the lane for players in the paint, which in turn opens up jump shooters to have clearer looks. Duke is 8-1 ATS vs. good passing teams, averaging 16 or more assists a contest.

Maryland is 8-1 ATS in 2010 and Duke is 13-0 and 9-3 ATS at Cameron Indoor. What will happen, the outright winner is 13-0-1 ATS in last 14 encounters for the only teams with two ACC losses.

Power Line ? Duke by 9

Missouri at Baylor (-4, 144.5) 1:45E Big 12 Network

The Tigers and Bears are looking to move up in the Big 12 standings and do battle in Baylor. Missouri?s style is to pressure the entire court, nonetheless that is nearly impossible to do unless they make shots, which sets up the press. A quick perusal of Mizzou?s season shows most losses have occurred on off-shooting outings. Make baskets and the Tigers (18-6, 10-8 ATS) are 13-5 ATS versus offensive teams scoring 77 or more points a game.

This is important contest for Baylor (18-5, 11-5 ATS), since they will either be favored or a short road underdog in next five Big 12 engagements. The Bears follow the lead of guard Tweety Carter, who can score or dish. The Baylor big people add more than expected and do nice work cleaning the glass. That point is meaningful since Missouri will force turnovers, making rebounding a must to control an aspect of the contest. The Bears are 22-9 AT against teams who make eight or more 3-point shots a game.

Baylor has covered last six meetings in Waco, winning four times.

Power Line ? Baylor by 3

Rhode Island at Temple (-4.5,133) 4:00E Comcast

A glance at the A-10 standings shows this race is going down to final weekend to crown regular season champion, with seven teams having either two or three league losses. One of the matchups that will help determine the eventual outcome is this tilt. Rhode Island (19-4, 8-10-2 ATS) would make Al Davis smile, since all they do is win. That method of play makes the Rams a poor play at home and swell choice on the road as 8-2 and 6-2-2 ATS proves. On game by game basis, Rhode Island has a lot of answers to take down opposing clubs.

No. 21 Temple (19-5, 14-10 ATS) has put together an impressive body of work in 2009-10. Victories over Villanova, Siena and Virginia Tech, along with its strong play in the A-10 makes the Owls a hoot. All year Temple has been among the best teams in college basketball in fewest points allowed (57.6), yet is not deficient in scoring (65.0), like other comparable units. This is not a squib; the Owls are 32-13 ATS against conference opponents over the last three seasons.

Rhode Island tries to prevent season sweep, however is 2-9 and 4-7 ATS at the Liacouras Center, against a Temple team that is 10-1 and 7-4 ATS on its home court.

Power Line ? Temple by 6

George Mason at Old Dominion (-13.5,122.5) 4:00E Comcast-DC

These two squads trail Northeastern by a game in the Colonial Conference at 13-3 and each will look to at least keep pace Saturday afternoon. George Mason (16-9, 10-11-1 ATS) was school record 10-1 in January (6-4-1 ATS) and has stumbled a couple of times this month at Georgia State and at Drexel. The Patriots are young team and they are about to find just how good they really are. With guard Cam Long their best player, George Mason is 6-2 ATS on Saturday?s.

Old Dominion (19-7, 8-13-1 ATS) was pasted by the Patriots 71-55 as six-point road favorites on Jan. 2, before anyone realized how good they might be. The Monarchs are built around playing solid defense, permitting a meager 55.2 points per game. ODU came together as a team when Kent Bazemore was paired with Darius James in the backcourt. Old Dominion is 12-0 at the Constant Convocation Center, winning by whopping 19.8 PPG, however is only 3-5-1 ATS.

Watch the underdog in this one, who is sporting 6-2 ATS mark.

Power Line ? Old Dominion by 13

Memphis at Tulsa (-2.5, 132) 7:00E ESPN2

Memphis fans are finding out what it is like to no longer be elite. The Tigers have been clipped for a couple of C-USA losses, as Tigers? fan jealously think of how John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins would have looked in Memphis blue. The Tigers (17-7, 6-13 ATS) are no longer privileged, going just seven deep and six players absorbing the majority of the minutes. Coach Josh Pastner knows what he will receive most nights from the backcourt, up front, not so much. Memphis is just 1-6 ATS against clubs with winning home record.

Tulsa (19-5, 7-13-1 ATS) has two exemplary players in guard Ben Uzoh and center Jerome Jordan and they are the only two to start every game this season. With Memphis finally vulnerable, the senior duo understands this is their time and they want to be the top dog of the league. The Golden Hurricane can board, leading the conference in rebound margin, but get very few easy baskets ranking last in creating turnovers. Tulsa still has other taxing affairs ahead, yet a win here breeds confidence for a team that is 12-3 ATS as a home favorite of six points or less or pick.

Both teams have two conference losses and trail once beaten UTEP. The loser could be out of C-USA contention and Memphis likes their chances since they have won last 10 of 11 (6-5 ATS), including last four visits to Tulsa, covering three times.

Power Line ? Tulsa by 4

Northern Colorado at Weber State (-4.5, 148) 9:00E

In the Big Sky Conference, Northern Colorado (20-5, 11-11 ATS) attempts to catch Weber State (16-8, 12-8 ATS) for first place. Will Figures and Devon Beitzel are the Bears two leading scorers this team is at its best against quality competition with 8-3 ATS record vs. outfits with a winning record.

Weber State is at the head of the conference leaderboard, having won six of seven since losing at Northern Colorado. The Wildcats are trying to win their second straight regular-season conference championship which is meaningful since the regular-season champ plays host to the semifinals and championship game of the league tournament. A usual, Weber State is tyrant at home with 10-1 mark and 5-3 ATS record. They have covered 41 of last 61 home games.

Northern Colorado is underdog and covered the spread last night for the first time since beating Weber State eight games ago.

Power Line ? Weber State by 5

Tennessee at Kentucky (-9.5, 147) 9:00E ESPN

You have to tip your cap to coach Bruce Pearl. While most coaches and players talk about overcoming adversity, which many people never quite grasp, this Tennessee (18-5, 9-11 ATS) club really has with earlier suspensions that rocked the team. It says a lot about the coach and players. Though basketball is a team game, each individual had to make conscious decision to played better, work harder and the basketball world marvels at what the Volunteers have been able to accomplish since the new year began. Pearl will need another trick up his sleeve at Kentucky; however the Vols are 6-3 ATS as road underdogs.

All the early discussion was how terrific guard John Wall was the best point guard since Jason Kidd coming into college. Wall has not disappointed anyone with his singular play, but as the season has worn on, center DeMarcus Cousins has turned into a double-double machine. He wants the ball when Kentucky (23-1, 11-11 ATS) needs a basket and as opposed to many 6?11 big guys, he?s got a good stroke from the free throw line. One of the most striking aspects of these two and fellow freshman Eric Bledsoe, they love to compete and when Big Blue is off a non-cover like what happened against Alabama the last time out, they are 20-8 ATS, including this group at 10-0 and 7-1 ATS.

The Wildcats have taken 10 of last 12 at Rupp Arena vs. the Vols, thou are 6-6 ATS.

Power Line ? Kentucky by 12

Sunday, Feb. 14

Ohio State at Illinois ( ) 1:00E CBS

This matchup has Big Ten Network written all over two weeks ago, instead it?s an indicator of who might emerge as conference champions. Illinois (17-8, 9-13-1 ATS) was NIT bound after losing three league games in a row in the middle of January. Nobody gave them much a chance, since they still had the meat of their schedule ahead, however three wins gave the team confidence, which were followed by upsets of Michigan State and Wisconsin and an overzealous Brent Musburger has Bruce Webber up for coach of the year with this turnaround. What Webber really did is punish bad behavior from various players by giving them splinter time and they have roared back. The Fighting Illini are 12-1 in Champaign and perfect 9-0 as home favorites, though 3-6 ATS.

Ohio State (19-6, 12-13 ATS) has won eight of nine (5-4 ATS) to crawl back into Big Ten chase. The return of Evan Turner has made this team complete and they are hell-bent on winning it all since Turner is likely to enter NBA Draft after the season. Turner?s ability to score allows William Buford and David Lighty to find more open shots. Illinois will also have to contend with center Dallas Lauderdale, who is a load in the low blocks. The Buckeyes are 3-7 ATS away from Columbus this season and 1-5 SU and ATS as road underdogs.

The Illini are 6-3 SU and ATS hosting Ohio State and swept them last season.

Power Line ? Illinois by 1

Louisville at Syracuse ( ) 1:00E ESPN

Louisville (15-9, 7-12 ATS) has not met lowered expectations from a season ago, facing a slate loaded with landmines. The Cardinals have been on the short side of a number of road games in the Big East, however Rick Pitino isn?t about to lay all the blame on his players. ?I?ve had it with the officiating (in the conference). That?s why I?m not going to say anymore. I?ve had it.??Coach Pitino. He?ll hope the zebras won?t be an issue on Valentine?s Day, with his club 14-5 ATS in February games over the last three seasons.

Syracuse (24-1, 15-6 ATS) caught many prognosticators off guard in November, yet this club has methodically gone about its basketball business and keeps winning games. The Orangemen have suffered a couple of sleepy starts in recent weeks, but showed their talent and grit in overcoming Georgetown and DePaul. If Syracuse is really Final Four material, over the next month have to be less risky when handling the ball, trying to make too many ESPN highlight plays. Facing a pressing Louisville squad could be a step in the right direction for a team that is 13-5 ATS playing a team with a winning record this season.

The Orange is 2-5 and 1-5-1 ATS vs. the ?Ville in last 12 years.

Power Line ? Syracuse by 10

Saturday's Prime Tips

Saturday's Prime Tips

**Xavier at Florida**

--On the night when UF will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2000 team that went to the national-championship game before losing to Michigan St., Billy Donovan?s team will be in dire need of a win in a non-conference showdown against Xavier.

--Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened Florida (17-7 straight up, 11-8 against the spread) as a 4 ?-point favorite. As of early this morning, most betting shops had UF at four with the total in the 144-145 range.

--Florida fell to 6-4 in SEC play with Wednesday?s 77-71 loss at South Carolina. The Gators led for most of the game before their atrocious free-throw shooting led to their demise. UF made just 10-of-23 from the charity stripe, including several front-end misses for one-and-one opportunities.

--Xavier (16-7 SU, 14-8 ATS) saw its four-game winning streak snapped in last Saturday?s 90-65 loss at Dayton as a 3 ?-point road underdog. The 155 combined points easily eclipsed the 135 ?-point total. Jordan Crawford had 24 points in the losing effort against the Flyers.

--Chris Mack is doing an excellent job in his first season since taking over for Sean Miller, who left Xavier to take the Arizona job. The Muskateers have quality wins over the likes of Cincinnati, Charlotte, Dayton and Rhode Island, but all of those have come at home. To their credit, they took Wake Forest (RPI: 12) to overtime in Winston Salem but came up on the short end of a 96-92 decision. The resume could use a quality road win and at Florida against a team from out of the SEC would certainly fit that criteria.

--Before finding yet another way to lose in Columbia, Billy Donovan?s team had won six of its seven previous games. Nevertheless, UF finds itself on the bubble for the third straight season after winning back-to-back national championships. As of Friday, I think the Gators would be ?in,? albeit barely with a likely seed of 11 or 12. Translation: Florida can?t afford a non-conference loss at home in this spot.

--UF has won 11 of its 13 home games at the O-Dome, going 5-4 versus the number. Vernon Macklin erupted for his best game as a Gator in his team?s last home game, a 69-62 win over Mississippi St. last Saturday to cover the three-point spread. Macklin had 20 points and six rebounds against Jarvis Varnado, one the SEC?s best shot blockers ever.

--Xavier has not thrived in the road underdog role this year, going winless and amassing an abysmal 1-4 ATS ledger. UF

--The ?over? is on a lucrative 12-3 run in Xavier?s last 15 games. The Muskateers have seen the ?over? go 16-5 overall for the year.

--The ?under? is 9-6 overall for the Gators, 4-2 in their home games.

--ESPN will have television coverage at 6:00 p.m. Eastern.

**Tennessee at Kentucky**

--LVSC opened Kentucky (23-1 SU, 11-11 ATS) as an 8 ?-point favorite for this critical SEC East showdown. As of early this morning, most spots had UK favored by 9 ? with a total of 147.

--Has Tennessee (18-5 SU, 9-10-1 ATS) hit the proverbial wall? Perhaps, especially if the Vols? 90-71 loss Tuesday at Vandy was any indicator. Bruce Pearl?s team has lost three of its last six games and is in the midst of a 1-5 ATS slide.

--John Calipari?s team was given fits by Alabama in Tuesday?s 66-55 home win. John Wall had 22 points and 10 rebounds, but the ?Cats failed to cover the spread as 15-point favorites. DeMarcus Cousins added 16 points and 13 boards.

--Vandy jumped all over UT early, taking a 44-27 lead into intermission. J.P. Prince had a team-high 19 points in the losing effort. Melvin Goins scored 11 points for his first double-figure effort since returning from suspension. Wayne Chism finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.

--Tennessee is 2-1-1 ATS in four underdog spots this year. The Vols pushed in a one-point loss to Purdue on a neutral court. They won outright at Memphis as short ?dogs and beat Kansas at Thompson-Boling Arena while catching five points.

--UK is unbeaten in 16 games at Rupp Arena, but the ?Cats are a mediocre 6-8 ATS in 14 lined home games. They are 2-1 ATS in three single-digit ?chalk? spots at home, covering against Vandy and Louisville but not vs. UNC.

--Kentucky has won five of the last seven head-to-head meetings against UT, going 6-1 ATS. The Wildcats swept the season series last year, winning 77-58 at Rupp Arena. They went into Knoxville and won by a 90-72 count thanks to Jodie Meeks? epic 54-point performance in which he broke Dan Issel?s UK record for points in a single game.

--The ?over? is 12-9 overall for Kentucky, 9-4 in its home assignments. The ?over? has been more prevalent for UK recently, hitting at an 8-2 clip in its last 10 home games and at an 11-4 rate in its last 15 outings (regardless of venue).

--The ?under? is on a 7-3 run in UT?s last 10 games. The Vols have seen the ?under? go 11-5 overall.

--Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

--Georgia senior center Albert Jackson was arrested Thursday night for an outstanding warrant from a hit-and-run incident two years ago. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, UGA head coach Mark Fox was noncommittal about Jackson?s punishment and it was unclear whether or not he?s be available tonight vs. South Carolina. The Dawgs, who were 2 ?-point home favorites as of early this morning, will be looking to avenge a gut-wrenching 78-77 loss in Columbia two weeks ago.

--The ?over? is on a 9-2 run in Georgia?s last 11 games. Also, the Dawgs are 8-1 ATS in their last nine home games and are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 head-to-head meetings against South Carolina.

--The ?over? is 6-1 in the last seven Auburn-Mississippi St. meetings. These SEC West rivals will collide tonight at The Hump in Starkville at 7:00 p.m. Eastern. As of early this morning, most books had the Bulldogs favored by 10-11 points after LVSC had MSU at 13 on the send-out. Rick Stansbury?s team got a nice home win Thursday over Ole Miss to sweep the season series from the Rebels, but it would most likely be on the outside looking in if the season was over today. In other words, this is a monster game for the Bulldogs, one they cannot afford to lose.

--One of the more important bubble games Saturday will be played in Milwaukee. As of early this morning, Marquette was listed as an 8 ?-point home favorite for its Big East clash vs. South Florida. The Bulls have covered the spread in seven consecutive games. According to the Tampa Tribune, USF head coach Stan Heath said that Augustus Gilchrist will play 20-30 minutes for the Bulls. Gilchrist, who averages 18.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, has been out for 15 straight games with an ankle injury.

--Former Oklahoma St. head coach Sean Sutton, who went to Kentucky and then OSU during his playing career, was arrested Thursday night on drug charges.

Former OSU Head Men?s Basketball Coach Sean Sutton was arrested Thursday night on a charge of attempting to possess a controlled dangerous substance, and use of a communications device in the commission of a felony. Sutton is expected to appear for arraignment this afternoon in Payne County District Court.

Sutton was arrested after an investigation that started last August, according the spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau Of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, Mark Woodward. Woodward says his agency received information from multiple sources that Sutton had been visiting multiple doctors for prescription drugs, and was confronted about it in August.

According to Woodward, Sutton underwent treatment for addiction to prescription painkillers, but the OBNDD began to receive information that Sutton was ordering prescriptions from out of state.

Woodward says the a shipment was intercepted yesterday from out of state, and Sutton was arrested after attempting to pick it up. Woodward says his agency is working with authorities in Washington and New York, and that additional charges and arrests could be made.

Don?t need to tell you that this runs in the family.

Sutton takes leave of absence; cited with DUI

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Eddie Sutton might have coached his last game, a 35-year career potentially ending six victories short of 800 (see inset) because of a traffic accident in which he was injured and cited for driving under the influence.

Oklahoma State announced Monday that the 69-year-old Sutton would take a medical leave and that Sean Sutton, his son and designated heir apparent, will finish this season as coach. The school said no decision had been made on who will coach next season.

Eddie Sutton said in a statement released by the university that he nearly took medical leave after a Feb. 4 trip to Kansas State because of chronic back pain that was "making it very difficult to coach."

"After Friday's events, I know it is best to go on medical leave the remainder of the season to address my future health," he said. "It is very difficult to step away from the team. But I know they are in great hands."

Under Oklahoma law, driving under the influence can include a range of substances, including prescription painkillers or alcohol. The university said it would not comment on the DUI citation because of privacy and legal reasons.

In their first game since the elder Sutton stepped aside, the Cowboys lost 64-49 to No. 22 Kansas on Monday night.

Fans held up signs reading "We Miss Eddie" and "Get Well Eddie," and a brief "Eddie! Eddie!" chant broke out in one section of seats in the final minutes.

The Cowboys played the Jayhawks close for about 30 minutes, before Kansas pulled away.

"I think it helped us a lot because we were stressing, 'Do this for coach Sutton,' " Oklahoma State freshman Terrel Harris said. "We just felt like we had to do it for him. We thought this win would really make him feel good, make him feel better."

Forward Torre Johnson said, "It's bringing us together instead of pulling us apart, him not being here."

Sutton spent the night in the hospital with a head injury following Friday's accident in Stillwater.

Witnesses described Sutton's sports utility vehicle as driving dangerously and erratically, forcing cars to swerve out of the way before he hit another SUV from behind at about 60 mph, according to police reports released Monday.

The driver of the other SUV received minor injuries and was released at the scene.

One witness at the accident scene told police that Sutton seemed confused, responded angrily to questions and had a "slight fruity odor" on his breath.

The same witness reported seeing a bottle of prescription hydrocodone, a narcotic painkiller, on the seat of Sutton's SUV.

Stillwater police cited Sutton after the accident but did not jail him on a complaint of driving under the influence because of a lack of physical evidence, the city's police chief said Monday.

Witnesses told police that shortly before the accident, Sutton was unsteady on his feet and struck his head after falling in the parking lot of Gallagher-Iba Arena before entering his vehicle. Sutton refused an ambulance at that scene and insisted on driving, police reports show.

The results of blood tests -- which could take six to eight weeks to receive -- will show whether the coach was driving under the influence, Stillwater Chief Norman McNickle said. Sutton was not given a field sobriety test at the time because he needed medical treatment, he said.

Police also filed complaints against Sutton for speeding and crossing the center line.

When Sutton came to his alma mater in 1990, he acknowledged he had undergone treatment for a drinking problem and said "I've dealt with it."

In Monday's statement, Sutton said he had been under a tremendous amount of stress because of "my deteriorating physical condition and other issues."

Sutton has weathered other tough times to become the fifth winningest men's coach in Division I history, trailing only Dean Smith (879), Adolph Rupp (876), Bob Knight (866) and Jim Phelan (830).

"I hope he's back next year. I mean this sincerely," Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson said. "I've never coached against a better coach than Eddie Sutton."

Sutton resigned in 1989 from a Kentucky program placed on four years' probation. In 2001, a plane crash killed two Oklahoma State basketball players and six team staffers.

The Cowboys have advanced to postseason play 14 times in 15 years under Sutton, including 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. He took the Cowboys to the Final Four in 1995 and 2004. He also reached the Final Four with Arkansas.

After last season, there was much speculation about whether Sutton would retire. Instead of stepping aside, he stayed on and his son became his replacement in waiting, though no specific timetable was given for the change of power.

After Monday's loss, the Cowboys dropped to 13-12 and 3-8 in the Big 12 with five regular-season games left. Sutton recently criticized his team's toughness, calling it the "softest team in 16 years that I have ever coached."

Sutton spoke to players twice Sunday, assistant coach James Dickey said during the Big 12 coaches conference call Monday.

"I'm sure they were disappointed," Dickey said. "As you can imagine, the players listened intently. But they all wished him the best, told him they loved him. He told them he loved them, to stay on the books and play hard and do their best."

Maryland at Duke

Maryland at Duke

Maryland at Duke

With rumors swirling that Mike Krzyzewski could be a target of the New Jersey Nets for the 2010-2011 season, Duke (20-4 straight up, 15-8 against the spread) returns home to face Maryland on Saturday afternoon with first place in the ACC on the line.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened the Blue Devils as nine-point home favorites. As of early this morning, most books had Duke at 10 with a total of 147 1/2.

Maryland (16-6 SU, 11-7 ATS) comes to Durham on a serious roll. The Terrapins, who are 6-2 in ACC action, have won six of their last seven games. Even better, they are 8-1 ATS in their last nine lined affairs.

Gary Williams? team has had all week to prep for this spot after spanking North Carolina 92-71 last Sunday afternoon. The Terps, who easily cashed tickets as six-point home favorites, were led by Greivis Vasquez. The senior guard dominated the Tar Heels, producing 26 points, 11 assists and five rebounds.

Eric Hayes added 16 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Landon Milbourne chipped in with 15 points, five boards, three steals and three blocked shots.

If first place in the league wasn?t at stake, bettors could probably classify this situation as a letdown spot for Duke since it is coming off Wednesday?s 64-54 win at North Carolina as a 5 ?-point road ?chalk.? However, with UNC so down this season, I don?t know that that theory is applicable here.

Jon Scheyer, the senior guard who continues to make a strong case for All-American consideration, had a team-high 24 points against the Tar Heels. Kyle Singler added 19 points and nine rebounds.

But it wasn?t all good news for Duke despite the win at the Dean Dome. Lance Thomas, one of the team?s premier defenders who averages 5.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, sustained a severely bruised knee. Thomas is ?doubtful? against Maryland and could miss even more time.

The Blue Devils have been steady money makers at Cameron Indoor Stadium this season. They are unbeaten in 13 games, compiling a lucrative 9-3 spread record. If the line dips back down into single digits later this morning, it will be the first time Duke has been a single-digit favorite at home this year. The Blue Devils are 4-4 ATS in single-digit ?chalk? spots both on the road and at neutral venues.

Maryland has played four true road games as an underdog this season, posting a 2-2 SU record and a 3-1 ATS mark. The Terps won outright at FSU and at Boston College.

Duke has won five in a row against the Terps, going 3-1-1 ATS in the process. When these teams met at Cameron last year, the Blue Devils captured an 85-44 win as 15-point home favorites.

The 41-point loss prompted some pundits to imply that Williams was on the hot seat in College Park. Obviously, that notion has been dismissed in the last 13 months.

The ?under? is 12-11 overall for Duke, but the ?over? is 7-5 in its home games. Meanwhile, Maryland has watched the ?over? go 10-5-1 overall. The ?under? has cashed in four consecutive head-to-head meetings between these ACC adversaries.

Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

--North Carolina sophomore center Ed Davis could be out for the rest of the season with a broken wrist. I?d say this is the icing on the cake for the Tar Heels, who are going to miss the NCAA Tournament and possibly the NIT just one year after winning the national championship. But this might not be rock bottom for a UNC squad that?s an abysmal 2-7 in ACC play and just one-half game out of the cellar that?s currently occupied by North Carolina St. The only good news is that Davis, once considered a lock lottery pick for next year?s NBA Draft, might consider returning to Chapel Hill for his junior campaign.

--Notre Dame senior center Luke Harangody will miss Sunday?s home game vs. St. John?s with a knee injury sustained in Thursday?s loss at Seton Hall. Harangody, who is second in the nation in scoring with 24.1 points per game, is hoping to return for Wednesday?s game at Louisville.

--Pittsburgh rallied from a five-point deficit in the final minute to force overtime Friday night against West Virginina. Then in triple overtime, the Panthers emerged with a 98-95 win as three-point home underdogs. They hooked up money-line backers with a plus-125 return (paid $125 on $100 bets).

--Cornell?s chances of earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament if it doesn?t win the Ivy League?s regular-season crown took a serious blow Friday. That?s when the Big Red went down in stunning fashion at Penn. The Quakers hammered Cornell 79-64 as 16-point home underdogs. Bettors backing Penn to win outright at the Las Vegas Hilton brought home a plus-1250 payout (paid $1,250 on $100 bets). The Big Red must bounce back tonight at Princeton, which stayed unbeaten in Ivy League play with last night?s 55-45 win over Columbia.

--LSU junior guard Bo Spencer is ?questionable? today at Vanderbilt. He was unable to return to Wednesday?s loss at Arkansas after spraining his ankle late in the first half. Spencer averages 15.0 PPG. Also, sophomore forward Storm Warren is ?questionable? with a hamstring injury. Warren averages 12.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. The Commodores were 16 ?-point home favorites as of early this morning.

--The 'under' is 15-4-1 overall for Alabama, which hosts Arkansas today. The total was 139 1/2 as of early this morning. The Tide was a six-point home favorite.

No. 10 Michigan State at Penn State (12 p.m., ET, ESPN)

Less than two weeks ago, Michigan State looked like a national title contender and appeared to have locked up the Big Ten conference title. Now they are stuck in a log-jam at the top of the Big Ten with five teams within one game of the conference lead.

"It's still my team and I've got to straighten it out, and I'm going to say that we're still tied for first," Tom Izzo told the Lansing State Journal after Tuesday's 76-64 loss to Purdue.

Maryland at No. 8 Duke (1 p.m., ET, CBS)
After beating rival North Carolina on Wednesday, Duke got a piece of bad news leading into its game against Maryland. Forward Lance Thomas is out indefinitely and is doubtful to play against Maryland. Thomas suffered a severe bone bruise in his right knee when he collided with a North Carolina player early in the second half.

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State (2 p.m., ET, ESPN)
The similarities between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are plentiful. Both stand at 4-5 in the Big 12 conference, both are struggling to earn an NCAA tournament berth and both are coming off losses to Texas Tech. Oklahoma State had wins over Kansas State and Texas A&M and was sitting pretty at 4-2 in the conference before its three-game losing streak. Oklahoma State hopes to create a similar run tolast year when it made the NCAA tournament.

Providence at No. 4 Villanova (2 p.m., ET, ESPNU)
On any given moment, Villanova?s Scottie Reynolds can go off. He scored just two points in the first half against West Virginia but Reynolds but piled on 19 in the second half in route to a 7-point win over West Virginia. The win came after a loss to Georgetown last weekend and Villanova has not lost back-to-back games in nearly two years.

Indiana at No. 11 Wisconsin (2 p.m., ET, Big Ten Network)
With Michigan State losing on the same night, Wisconsin had a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Big Ten. However, Illinois beat Wisconsin on Tuesday, and Wisconsin dropped to a game out of first place. The loss ended Wisconsin?s 18-game home win streak and Wisconsin scored just six points in the paint.

N.C. State at North Carolina (4 p.m., ET, ESPN)
Leading by four with 12 minutes left against Duke, North Carolina was close to getting a signature win and getting on back on track. But then the Heels went ice cold, hitting four of their last 17 shots, falling to Duke by 10.

"Up until that point, we did a much better job than in the past of waiting for better shots, taking better shots," senior Marcus Ginyard told the News and Observer. "We weren't as patient those last 10 minutes as we were earlier in the game - just taking some shots that were marginal, and we just weren't putting them in."

Iowa at No. 6 Purdue (4 p.m., ET, Big Ten Network)
Purdue guard E?Twaun Moore has thrived on the road this season averaging more than 20 points per game in his six Big Ten road games. That includes 25 points in a win at Michigan State on Tuesday. Moore is averaging 17.5 points per game in all games this season.

"When you're on the road, you have everybody against you," Moore told the Indianapolis Star. "It just feels good when you make a shot or something to silence the crowd. I don't know what it is, but I just love playing on the road."

Iowa State at No. 1 Kansas (8 p.m., ET, ESPNU)
Senior guard Sherron Collins and junior center Cole Aldrich may get most of the glory but it is the play of sophomore forward Marcus Morris who is leading the way for Kansas in scoring in Big 12 play. Morris is averaging almost 18 points and better than eight rebounds per game in Big 12 play, giving Kansas a reliable third scoring option. Morris is benefiting from opposing defenses focusing on Aldrich.

No. 12 Tennessee at No. 3 Kentucky (9 p.m., ET, ESPN)
Since entering SEC play, Kentucky has seen defenses transition from man-to-man to zone defenses, hoping to limit the ability of Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins in the paint. In Kentucky?s lone loss to South Carolina, it went just three of 16 from beyond the arc. Opposing teams have also tried to be more patient on offense, limiting the number of possessions for the high flying Kentucky offense.

No. 15 New Mexico at Utah (9 p.m., ET, MTN)
With New Mexico?s win over 23rd ranked UNLV on Wednesday, New Mexico got its fifth win over a top-25 opponent this season and has won eight straight against ranked teams. It was also the eighth win away from home for New Mexico.

"We've been a good road team, make that a great road team all year," coach Steve Alford told the Albuquerque Journal after the win over UNLV. "This was the best environment we've played in all season long. We withstood the runs. I just think we've done a really good job the entire season of getting the job done."

CBB: College Basketball Top Weekend Power Trends

Friday night college hoops features is a bitter rivalry and rematch contest from Pittsburgh, as the 23rd ranked Panthers play host to #4 West Virginia. WVU is currently three point favorites at Sportsbook.com. The teams met just a couple of weeks ago in what was an extremely intense game won by the Mountaineers in Morgantown. HC Jamie Dixon?s team is at home this time around and typically tough as hosts, particularly in revenge spots. West Virginia has already lost a game this week, at home to Villanova on Monday night. In other Top 25 action on Friday, 22nd ranked Cornell, 20-3 overall, 6-0 in Ivy League competition, hits the road to take on 3-15 Pennsylvania. These teams have represented the conference in five straight NCAA tourney?s and the Big Red figure to do so again this March.

On Saturday, the bulk of the action will occur, with a total of 96 board games to choose from as the tournament picture continues to sort itself out. Perhaps the biggest game of the day is in Kentucky, as Tennessee visits the 2nd ranked Wildcats, with the ESPN GameDay crew on hand at Rupp Arena. The hosts have still lost just once on the season, while the Volunteers will be looking to rebound from an ugly setback at Vanderbilt on Tuesday. In all, 12 of the Top 25 teams will be at home Saturday, including six of the Top 10. #1 Kansas hosts Iowa State, while #7 Duke, fresh off its win at North Carolina, hosts Maryland. Several ranked visiting clubs figure to be on upset alert too, with dangerous foes in waiting. In the Horizon & Ivy league?s, the first place teams visit the second place, with Butler traveling to Cleveland State, and Cornell visiting Princeton. New Mexico faces a landmine game at Utah, as does Georgia Tech, who figures to be an underdog at Wake Forest.

The Sunday board features a pair of great early games, both nationally televised. On ESPN, Louisville visits Syracuse, while on CBS, two of the Big Ten frontrunners get together when Ohio State travels to Champaign to take on Illinois. For Louisville, it?s been an up & down year that just got more interesting this past week as rumors regarding coach Rick Pitino?s potential exodus to the NBA came out mid-week. The Cardinals are one of the teams that needs to finish strong to ensure a NCAA berth, but Sunday?s game at the Carrier Dome against #3 Syracuse will certainly be a challenge. For Ohio State, the season turned for the good with the return of SG Evan Turner. Since he came back from injury, the Buckeyes only loss was of the non-conference variety at West Virginia. They are a true conference title contender with him in the lineup, but their opponent, Illinois, has gotten hot, knocking off Michigan State & Wisconsin in consecutive games to climb to the top of the league. Georgetown will also be in action at Rutgers, one of a total of 19 Sunday board games. The day also features a renewal of the rivalry between USC & UCLA.

Now, here are some of those Top StatFox Power Trends you?ll want to consider as you build your wagering lineup for the weekend. After checking out the key numbers, head to Sportsbook.com to wager on these games.

NASCAR: 2010 NASCAR & Daytona 500 Preview

With the NFL having played its Super Bowl game a week prior, the ?Super Bowl of NASCAR? returns on Sunday, February 14th with the annual running of the Daytona 500. Thus starts up the race betting season for 2010, as Sportsbook.com is back with all of its usual props, matchups, and race futures wagering opportunities.

Unlike most sports, NASCAR?s biggest event of each season is its first, as The Great American Race from Daytona International Speedway is matched in tradition and pageantry by no other race, and it boasts the season?s biggest prize purse. The trip to Victory Lane at Daytona is the most coveted by drivers, as they look to add their name to the list of past winners that reads like a who?s-who of racing history. Matt Kenseth was the winner a year ago, and though he didn?t eventually qualify for the season-ending Chase for the Sprint Cup for the first time in his career, he did finish second in prize winnings for the season, and made a lifetime of memories simply with the Daytona win. Oddsmakers don?t consider Kenseth a major threat to make it two-in-a-row, installing him at 25-1 odds to win this Daytona 500, behind 11 other drivers, including Kyle Busch, the favorite at 8-1. Read on as we take a look at the 2010 NASCAR season in general, and preview Daytona.

Unlike a year ago, ?silly season? news didn?t dominate the NASCAR airwaves since the Ford 400 closed the 2009 proceedings. In fact, there are only a few team/driver changes even worth mentioning as we embark on a new campaign. In terms of new drivers in new places, be sure to change your program to reflect Jamie McMurray now in the #1 Earnhardt-Ganassi car formerly piloted by Martin Truex, and move to Truex to the #56, the same car that Michael Waltrip drove as the #55 a year ago. Elsewhere, Brad Keselowski will now be behind the wheel of the #12 Penske Dodge full-time, and same goes for A.J. Allmendinger in the #43 of Petty Motorsports, a car that has certainly made
