Betting totals based on the wind? You are "blowing" your money!

It happens all of the time.

"Hey, the wind is blowing out at High Bidder's Field! I gotta get me somma that "over"!"

Day after day, people fall for this play, and it is not too smart. If you liked the over to begin with, and you think the wind might add to that idea, great! Bet away! But, if that is the sole reason for the wager, save your cash.

There are no "gimmies" when it comes to the weather in sports wagering. That goes for football, too. "Windy day! They won't pass, and fg's will be hard to come by!" Bullshit! It doesn't pan out. The wind may have you thinking that routine fly balls will be leaving the yard faster than beantownjim leaves a Gay Pride picnic, but it takes a little more research than that.

What if you have two ground ball pitchers on the mound? a NASA wind tunnel wouldn't help you in this situation. Sure....the over might still get home, and you feel like you are a genious, but the "wind" would not be the reason for your score!

The wind does not help people as much as you might think in baseball totals wagering.

Factoring in the wind for your play, is one thing. Basing your play on the wind, is another.

good point, yyz. Happens all the time in foots...weather reports snow or rain and everyone pounds the under...sometimes the end result is a 35-31 game.

In those covered ballparks, which direction is the air conditioning blowing?

Also, does the hot air from the roar of the crowd help carry the ball?

Or what if the catcher just ate some hot chili?

Actually, there have been casses of teams opening or closing tunnel ways when the visitor is up. Something to do with the air pressure, and how it affects the hit ball!

Also, I remember seeing a similar thing on the Olympics quite a few years ago in the Soviet Union, when they opened the doors of the stadiums tunnels when their team was throwing the javelin.:nono:

yyz ... I don't disagree with your point at all ... never simply bet a game because of the weather factor. Today, I played the over in the Indians/Twins game cause I was already considering it before I saw the weather report and that simply made me decide to officially play it. But generally, you are corrent. False reports, etc... are rampant. I did verify the weather via the internet before placing my wager and posting it.

I agree to yyz but when your into third and forth pitchers in a rotation it does help that some balls that may have been caught carry deeper in the gaps .. And watch Lawtons homer at the Jake today routine fly out against the wind .. couple of loop gap shots as well .. coulve been outs or singles but ball carried there now doubles.. But to bet solely on the weather huge mistake ..Good Luck ALL
