OK, I have to chime in as another Pitt homer. Ben is top 5. Its tough to judge the best because of systems, but here's my top 5 in order and who they remind me of.
Manning = Marino
Incredible passers and I say the best in each era.
Brees = Montana
Same accuracy but Brees needs to win a few more obviously.
Brady = Aikman
The NE system has been a big friend to Brady. Aikman had similar talent but a different run first system with Emmitt.
Big Ben = Jim Kelly
Tough QBs with big arms. More success in SB's for Ben.
Rodgers = Young
Mobile, accurate, protoype dual threat QB.
rodgers/young
marino/manning
couldnt agree more with those comparisons FLA.:0074
rodgers has all the skills young had IMO, and at the end of his career, i think he will have better numbers.
marino and manning both so accurate and generals on the field man.
as far as ben, i really dont compare him too anyone. he has completley created a new type of QB play IMO. I know there has been mobile qbs in the past, but none of his size and athleticism. he really is a horse of a different color. i hate when people talk about his low completion total and qb ratings in past superbowl/playoff games. He does not play the same offense as brady and manning, and isnt asked to do those things. He could throw for 300 and 3 tds consistently if he had to, but that is not what he is asked and expected to do. He gives his team the best chance to win each game simply by extending plays, hitting the deep balls on target, and completing third downs with his arm/feet. He has the ability to put up huge numbers if he wanted IMO, but he is more worried about rings. He knows the best chance to win rings with his team and system is to just keep doing exactly what he has done in the past.
just a reminder, i am a dolphins fan who dislikes the steelers (mostly cause of fans), and absolutley cant stand ben off the field. I am not a homer or anything, i just stating what i think are the facts. Dude wins and does it a lot, anyone who says he isnt a great QB, well :facepalm: . Im curious too see what everyone will say if either: A. steelers wins and ben gets his 3rd ring, or B. steelers lose and ben doesnt have a huge day.
im sure if they lose people wll blame ben and say he was exposed as the fraud he is. if the steelers win, it will once again be because of their Defense/running game.
let me say this for all those people that make the argument about the defense/runnning game: Having family who loves the steelers, i have honestly watched every game the steelers have played this year, and to say that ben and the offense arent a huge factor into the steelers success is just crazy talk.
GL to ya fla, and keep up all the good work you do around here:toast:
