Teams that have given Southern Miss the most trouble in recent years are those that feature a decided size advantage.

DePaul has that type of team, and the two will square off at 8 p.m. today at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., in the first round of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.

?They?ve got a couple of big kids around the rim ? a fifth-year transfer from Purdue (Sandi Marcius) ? who?s a big, strong, physical kid,? said Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall. ?(They?ve got) a 6-10 freshman (Tommy Hamilton IV), who?s a top 50, top 75-type player out of high school.
?So their front line is pretty darn good.?

The Golden Eagles and Blue Demons are both coming off season-opening victories over SWAC opponents, Jackson State and Grambling State respectively.
Daveon Boardingham led the way in last week?s win for Southern Miss with 15 points and nine rebounds. Michael Craig scored nine points, including hitting 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Craig said the key to victory against DePaul will be maintaining control of the space beneath the basket.
?We?ve just got to box out,? he said. ?But we?ll also need help from the guards as well. Watching film, (DePaul) has guards that attack on rebounding.?

Tyndall said guard Chip Armelin, who missed last week?s season opener with a minor leg injury, was able to practice Monday and Tuesday, and is probable to play a limited role in today?s game.
Expected to start today for Southern Miss are Neil Watson, Jerrold Brooks, Aaron Brown, Craig and Boardingham.
