Good luck. (And I WILL need it).

Tigers vow to keep up the good fight
By JIMMY DeBUTTS
BIRMINGHAM POST-HERALD
The Auburn Tigers have adopted Cliff Ellis' fight to the end mentality.
In the second half of Auburn's 75-69 Loss at Tennessee on Saturday, leading scorer Marco Killingsworth was ejected after throwing a left punch at Volunteers forward Brandon Crump. Killingsworth's emotional blowout resulted in another Tigers meltdown.

The pesky Tigers have turned in competitive performances since defeating Georgia on Feb. 7. However, Auburn has failed to pull itself out of the Southeastern Conference Western Division cellar. The Tigers have lost four of five since defeating the Bulldogs.

Frustration of six conference losses by six points or less was punctuated by Killingsworth's pugilism.

The Tigers (13-12, 4-10 SEC) have lost seven of their past nine games. Their only hope of avoiding an NIT appearance is to win the SEC tournament (March 11-14 in Atlanta).

"I thought we battled hard in a hard-fought game," Auburn Coach Cliff Ellis said. "I liked the way we're battling, but I hate the result. We've played everybody in the league now, and there's not a team we can't play with in the SEC Tournament. This team has been through so much, I'm proud of them."

Auburn closes out the regular season beginning with an 8 p.m. Tuesday game at No. 7 Mississippi State (23-3, 12-2). The Tigers likely will be without Killingsworth who faces a suspension after his altercation in Knoxville.

Killingsworth might be back for Auburn's regular-season finale against LSU on Saturday.

An NIT berth isn't guaranteed for the Tigers. If they lose both games this week, the Tigers would need to win at least twice in the SEC Tournament to have a .500 record.

Although disappointed with his team's record, Ellis predicts the Tigers will reap the benefits of their current struggles.

"It will come for us down the line," Ellis said. "I love the heart of our team. We have to move on, and play one of the best two teams in the league at Mississippi State. We'll go there and fight and scrap."

Killingsworth is MIA for this game.

MARCO OUT FOR MSU GAME
Junior Marco Killingsworth has to serve a one-game suspension and miss the Mississippi State game for being ejected for fighting at Tennessee Saturday. According to NCAA rules, a player ejected for fighting must sit out the entire next game. It marks the first contest in Killingsworth's 82-game career that he will miss.
