The Big 12 would NEVER take TCU or UH. The choice would probably be BYU.

Mizzou is probably the best choice for the Big 11. And Mizzou would leave in a heartbeat. Rutgers doesnt deliver the NY market and is irrelevant.

Not in terms of academics and research money which is what the B10 is partially looking for... Mizzou wouldn't be in the top 5 for the expansion and if you don't think Rutgers would bring in more money to the big 10 network than Mizzou, you are absolutely clueless which I already knew.

It's a long story but politics in Texas required Baylor and Tech to get in - Ann Richards was Governor and a Baylor grad as was the leader in the legislature. Funding to UT/AM was threatened. Moreover, EVERY conference wants at least one private school for a number reasons. Thats why Vandy is safe forever in the SEC.

In fact Texas was very close to joining the Pac 10 but the Pac 10 didnt want AM.

TCU and Houston would add nothing to the conference financially or tv wise. And the Texas schools would ahve zero interest in adding them as real recruiting rivals. Losing Missouri would be a huge blow as St Louis is an impt market for the Big 12.

There is alot of dissension in the Big 12 right now. The Big 8 teams dont care for the Texas teams and vice versa - thats part of why the football tiebreaker wasnt changed. The way the money is split up has many of the schools upset and thats why Mizzou would have no qualms about leaving. There is still talk of Texas looking elsewhere. Texas would be a Big 11 fit but I dont see it happening ,and the politics of leaving the other Texas schools would still be a big problem.

For a few years it has been mentioned around Chicago (Big 10 HQ is here) that Rutgers is their main target due to the aforementioned NY market. The Big Ten wants to look east and get more of a presence there and if it wasn't Rutgers, Pitt or UConn or likely other targets. The Missouri thing is more self-promoting imo, as they have felt slighted in recent years by the Big XII. The Big Ten wants to expand east, they don't care about tv sets in KC and STL.

The Big East has known this too and wants to be more ready than the last time they were vultured. Miami (Oh) and UCF has been mentioned as possibilties to fill the spot of a departing school.

They may well go east, or even that they would get Rutgers, all I am saying is I dont buy that Rutgers brings the NY market. And those are awful replacement choices for the Big East. The thing about Pitt and UConn is no doubt they would move for football, but leave the Big East basketball seems unlikely.

Don't you know auditors? How 'bout asking a few pointed questions on behalf of the forum.

Thanks Sun -Didn't think about Baylor being a private school

I agree that those choices aren't great on face value for the Big East, but they obviously have shown they aren't the agressors in these situations. I'm still surprised they added USF without a travel pairing school like UCF.

The Miami (Oh) consideration was/is very real per a source in their athletic department. I think if they had another departure, they would just look for a quick sure replacement. Heck, it's obvious Mizzou is disgruntled in the Big XII and would join, but I just don't see the Big East doing anything but adding a mid-major that has a football program.

The other talk for the Big East was for them to try to get Nova to upgrade their football program. Highly unlikely there though.

I think Missouri is very attractive for the Big 11. They pick up 2 nice size markets in KC & St. Louis plus the Big 12 loses the state of Missouri which easily has the 2nd largest popultion of Big 12 schools.

Losing Missouri hurts the Big 12 quite a bit. I have to believe the Big 12 would look to add TCU although this would only be for football or possibly BYU.

Another rumor is Texas going to the Pathetic 10. If Texas goes to the pathetic 10, they're very DUMB. They would have to travel across the country on a consistent basis. It doesn't make sense.

DD - at least that would give the big 10 a legit football program:mj07:

I hope Missouri goes to Big Ten and Arkansas goes back to where they belong in the Big 12.

WVU to the SEC. :SIB

Pitt can rot in the MAC :sadwave:

Is Rutgers- Minnesota any better than Vanderbilt vs. Miss. St.? Rutgers is the only logical choice... Texas is NOT coming to the big 10.

I didn't mention Texas....I said Missouri.

Yes, Vandy-Mississippi St is MUCH better than Rutgers-ANYBODY.

Nobody in New York cares about Rutgers. I don't think anybody in Piscataway cares about Rutgers. Its Rutgers for christ's sake. :mj07:

They would be better off taking UCONN or Syracuse if they are trying to capture New York market. Big Ten Football is abysmal to watch and Rutgers makes it even worse.

If Penn State, Notre Dame and Maryland joined the Big East where they belong----that would make a sensational conference.

Dude - Be realistic... Rutgers has over 52,000 students, which most are located in the east, that's a lot of alumni. Plus, they are ranked academically and have concentrated on research money for graduate programs all of which every B10 school incorporates. It's a no brainer.

Notre Dame has 8,000 students and the Big Ten would have an orgasm if they accepted invitation. Notre Dame is also not part of that prestigious AAU that all of the Big Ten schools participate. I think they would make an exception.

What the hell does that have to say in my previous post? ND is not going to the B10... So I'm not sure what you're saying.
