Humphries has MRI on knee

University of Minnesota forward Kris Humphries missed practice because of a sore right ankle and had a magnetic resonance imaging test Thursday afternoon.
Humphries' status for Saturday's game at Iowa likely will be determined today after the results of his MRI are known.
The 6-foot-9 freshman injured his ankle during Minnesota's game at Indiana on Feb. 18.
"It is mostly precautionary, but you just don't know," Gophers coach Dan Monson said. "It's been a thing where he can warm up and get through it. They (the medical staff) don't think it is structural. They think he took a hit during the Indiana game, but what an MRI can do is rule some things out."
The injury didn't hinder Humphries at Indiana. In the Gophers' 73-71 victory, Humphries set the program's single-game freshman scoring record with 36 points. He scored the winning points, making two free throws with 3.6 seconds remaining, and grabbed 12 rebounds.
He has received regular treatment on his right ankle since .
"It's been a situation where once he gets warmed up, it tends to be OK," Monson said. "It hasn't gone away. After (Wednesday) night's game, it was sorer than it has been."
Humphries had 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 70-59 loss to Ohio State on Wednesday. He registered his Big Ten Conference-leading 15th double-double but made just 4 of 18 shots from the field.
In a 65-47 loss to Purdue on Saturday, Humphries scored 14 points on 5-for-16 shooting and was limited to a season-low three rebounds.
Humphries, who has scored in double figures in all 25 games this season, leads the Big Ten in scoring (22.0) and rebounding (10.1). He is trying to become the first freshman to lead the conference in both categories in a season.
The Gophers (10-16) are last in the Big Ten at 2-12. Having to win a game without Humphries would appear to be a monumental task.
With or without Humphries, the Gophers must find a way to shoot better and score more points.
The Gophers, who average 71.0 points a game, have scored a total of 106 points in their past two games, shooting 32.7 percent from the field (32 for 110).
"We've got to worry about getting us back in the right frame of mind," Monson said. "I think guys are still working hard. We've got to play with more confidence and more poise."
Waiting game: Redshirt freshman center Aliou Kane appeared in his 15th game of the season Wednesday, coming in at the end of the 70-59 loss to Ohio State. He was shaking his head as he came onto the court but said it was only out of frustration of the Gophers' losing and not his playing time.
He has heard a report that he is thinking of transferring.
"That's not in my mind yet," Kane said. "I'm playing at Minnesota and will finish out the year. I'm working hard in practice, and I'm not complaining."
