Sucks for the FCS schools.

I know that App State relies on the money they get from playing the one big program every year. Yeah that one big win every once in a blue moon is big but the 400k or so they get makes a big difference for their programs.

Great point! I remember Savannah St. saying the games against FSU and Okie St. covered a third of their athletic budget!

Exactly. I remember a few years ago Wisconsin played I believe it was Wofford. They interviewed the coach and asked him why he would schedule a game against the Badgers at Wisconsin. His answer was that Wisconsin needed a guaranteed win and we needed a new weight room. Both were happy.

So instead of Iowa playing the likes of Northern Iowa and having some in-state interest, I will pay good money to watch them play a directional Louisiana school or another MAC school. Yawn. Is there really much of a difference between a Ball State out of the MAC and a top 25 FCS squad like UNI? Not really.

You are right, Ball St is no Central Michigan.

Zero difference. Delaney is an ass. This is a PR move that makes little sense for the Big Ten or the small schools.

The conference is going to a ten game conference schedule though. 13 game seasons coming soon.......

Delaney is an ass but he's a good businessman in the game of college football. He has this done so that his conference's strength of schedule isn't as scrutinized by the future playoff committee. Then because the schools can't get 7 home games as easily, he'll have the school presidents petition the NCAA to increase the schedule to 13 games, like Cwood points out. More games will mean more $ for the big schools, more money for the conference through bigger tv deals, etc., etc. Just life in the ncaa.

besides the small schools needing the big money, the big schools need a pre-season type game..and it should ONLY be played as their 1st game of the season..:0008

@slmandel: Alvarez's quote really took off, but the B1G has NOT formally approved no-FCS foes. It's in discussion. If proposed, they vote in spring.

Don't worry everyone. Chattanooga, northern Iowa and Appalachian state are all still on the table.

Can't wait!!!!!

should just limit FCS scheduling to FCS top 25 teams.

no reason the top dogs in FCS shouldnt get a shot at FBS teams.

there is however no reason FCS bottom feeders should be a cupcake or practice game for any FBS team.

no way that is feasible given how schedules are made years in advance.
