There was a huge discrepancy in FT's, no doubt, but there was a reason for that. A perfect example was Terry at the end of regulation fading away for a jumper instead of trying to draw contact, figuring that the refs will not let him decide the game on the FT line. At the end of OT, Wade had no business going to the line. He was not looking for a shot, but rather looking for contact. He got the contact he wanted and that was that.
I backed Dallas and this does not make it any easier to swallow but Dallas shot 21-25 at the line and 3 of those were missed in the last 1:41 by Dampier (missed one) and Howard (who not only missed both, but called the worst timeout since Webber in 1993 NCAA's). So sure you can blame the refs but the fact of the matter is that the Heat (D-wade especially) realized the refs were going to allow them to goto the line for the slightest contact. He went looking for that contact while the Mavs shied away from it.
Especially puzzling is Dirk's lack of FTA's. He has been uber-agressive throughout these playoffs, but last night only attempted 5 FTS. Makes you wonder if the Heat's physical play on him in games 3 & 4 has caused him to settle for jumpers as opposed to taking punishment inside. Not to say he did not goto the basket at all, but with the way the refs were calling the game, he should have taken it upon himself to get to the line more often.
