---child labor is myth Bobby--been there 3 times and never saw any--ave wage there is about $75 to $125 U.S. which is adaquate as decent apartment goes for bout $20 U.S. a month.

Environment issues are problem--especially water--if you want to lock on to a sure winner in stocks find a water treatment company that is not owned by gov. I have not been able to find one but it is huge issue in their future.

Been there once to three different factories, dogs, not a myth. But firms that I work for don't always attract the "good guys" so it may not be representative of the entire population.

To work in financial services, having a knowledge of the Chinese language will almost be a requirement in 10 years.

Thats interesting Bobby--what part of China and what year?
You may have better perspective than I since you dealt with factories. I was basing my opinion on knowlege of Chinese people there in general.

dogs,

2002 - 2 factories right near Shanghai and one south of there near the ocean - I think it was Zhangzhang or something to that effect.

When profit-motive is the only goal and there is access to shipping routes, it's hard to pass on the labor savings, but that $120 monthly figure is hard to believe as that wasn't the case back then. It averaged to $65-70 / week and that was based on a 75 hour workweek.

The activity in China used to be just manufacturing of foreign countries companies, but now there is a ton of activity of Chinese owned companies looking for access to the US capital markets.

It certainly is a brave new world

Thanks Bobby Interesting story. There is island in south china sea called Hainen--exact latitude and weather as Hawaii--except lots of hurricanes--Guy could retire and live like king currently on $1,000 a month--except golf is extremely high. :(

You won't see the child labor in the open. And many families still live togeather in 1000 sg ft of space. Average here 2000 sq ft. family of 4. There it would be Grandma/Grandpa/Mom/Dad and kid or two and maybe a Uncle or Aunt.
Our business are going there for cheap labor. You don't here anyone here complain till it's there job on the line. Then it's to late. I don't believe many Americas understand the trade deficit with China and how it can hurt them and our country.
The enviroment is our problem. China does not worry to much about such things. They will someday when there health cost start to go up as are did. But then remember there government still hands out health care rather free of charge.
