Game notes: Home Teams Still Dominant In CAA Play: Home court continues to be a big advantage early in the CAA schedule, with home teams posting a 26-12 mark (68.4.%) in league play through Jan. 24.
William & Mary: The Tribe (4-13 overall, 1-7 in Colonial Athletic Association {CAA}) saw their losing streak extended to eight after setbacks last week @ Delaware and Hoftsra and the week before to Towson (73-67) and Drexel (80-76). The skid is the longest for William & Mary since dropping seven in a row in 2000-01. The Tribe rallied from big deficits in both games two weeks ago, trimming an 18-point halftime margin to three in the final two minutes at Towson and battling back to tie Drexel after trailing by 15 with 14 minutes to go. William and Mary then lost a tough overtime contest @ Delaware.
Old Dominion: The Monarchs (10-6 overall, 5-2 in CAA) rolled past James Madison 81-60 on two weeks ago, but suffered back to back and their first CAA losses of the season at Delaware (64-62) and Va Commonwealth (67-75). These setbacks snapped Old Dominion?s seven-game winning streak, which was the longest for the team since 1998-99. The Monarchs? victory at JMU was their first since 1997-98 and gave ODU its first 4-0 start in CAA play since 1994-95. The Monarchs? starting frontcourt has combined for 65-70% of the team?s points in recent games.
Both campuses had classes cancelled today due to snow and ice. Last year W/M defeated ODU in Williamsburg, but W/M shot over 50% while ODU shot 30%. Do not see why ODU is only 5 point favorite when game is basically only 20 minutes from each campus.
Believe ODU is a solid play.
