What's the quality of life like in Milwaukee? Am I going to freeze my ass off 8 months a year if I end up there next year? I am in the process of applying to pediatric residencies and the children's hospital in miwaukee is a very good program. Hopefully I'll get an interview this fall and come see for myself, but at first I wasn't sure if I could see myself living out there for 2 years.

I've lived in the Milwaukee area for the past 20+ years - and I like it very much.

There's a lot to do, especially in the summer. Winters really aren't a big deal - some snow, but usually not very much - maybe 1 day where driving is an issue. Temps are really pretty moderate - I don't think we went below zero the last couple of winters. More typical is 20-30 degrees during the winter.

I guess my view is it's not a lot different than living say, in Florida. Sounds crazy, but in the summer in FL, nobody goes outside cuz it's so hot. Here people don't go outside as much in the winter due to it being cold. Although if you like skiing or snowmobiling, northern WI is a great place in the winter.

I'd be happy to answer any ?'s you may have - get my email from Jack, and I'll give you a call sometime if you wish.

Thanks for the reply Mags. I will take you up on that offer if I am granted an interview this fall. At this point I am definitely applying because of the quality of the program. The snow shouldn't be a big deal, i grew up in NJ so saw a decent bit of it.

Any other opinions are welcome.

Thanks!

Ditto what Mags said about the weather for the most part. I live about 25 mins outside of Milwaukee, and there was one stretch of about six days in Feb. that it was really, really cold. Other than that, it's not that bad.

Spring is really nice, and if you're used to summer in the South, the summers are great. I've lived most of the past two summers in Texas, and this is much more bearable. It was like 94 here a couple days ago, and some people were like, "Damn it's hot out!". I just chuckled, since it felt like that in March when I lived in Dallas.

Socially, there are plenty of options downtown, but just as importantly, Chicago is just an hour drive down I-94.

I've lived here most of my life, and all of my teen and adult life. Weather isn't bad in the winter, and is just alittle humid in the summer.Tons of things to do, and the people are cool for the most part.

Mags, our business is in Hartland, where about do you live and did you grow up there.

I'm in the town of Lisbon - Hartland mail delivery. Grew up in Two Rivers (north, on Lake Michigan), but have lived here since college.

What business do you have in Hartland?

We own Unique Suites, a salon. What brought you down here? Job, wife family? My grandparents live in Manitowoc, and my grandma is from Two Rivers.
