The UAB Blazers shot the lights out in Wednesday night's win over the Belmont Bruins at Bartow Arena.

Remember it well, UAB basketball fans, because it'll be a while before the Blazers grace the floor of Bartow Arena for another game. The 5-1 Blazers will play four road games during the next 13 days, starting with tonight's game against the 3-3 Richmond Spiders. Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast and FM-101.1 will carry tonight's contest. Tipoff from the Robins Center is set for 6 p.m.

"Hopefully we can be road warriors," head coach Mike Anderson said. "Hopefully we can take some of this shooting with us. Any time you go on the road, you've got to shoot the ball well."

UAB had its best shooting night of the season against Belmont, hitting a sizzling 48 percent of its 3-point shots and a season-high 58 percent from the floor in the 107-76 win.

If the Belmont game is any indication, several Blazers are starting to find their strokes. Senior swingman Ronell Taylor had 13 points against the Bruins. All but two of Taylor's points came in the opening five minutes. He also led the team in rebounding with seven.

"Ronell got us off to a good start the other night," Anderson said. "You can see he's working to put himself in a position to help the basketball team. But it's not only his shooting, it's his rebounding and defense."

Junior guard Marvett McDonald hit his first five 3-point attempts against Belmont and finished with a career-high 19 points. McDonald, who many fans hope can replace the outside shooting of Mo Finley, is slowly adapting to the Division I game.

"He's getting in a rhythm and guys are getting the ball to him," Anderson said.

UAB games with Richmond are generally close. The four games between the two schools have been decided by a total of 16 points. The Blazers' eight-point win last season is the largest margin of victory in the series.

Richmond enters tonight's game with consecutive losses at Wake Forest (90-73) and VCU (58-50). UAB defeated VCU 79-55 on Nov. 27.

At 6-feet-11, 235 pounds, junior center Kevin Steenberge leads the Spiders in scoring with 14.5 points a game. Sophomore guard Daon Merritt is Richmond's second-leading scorer at 13.8. The Spiders average 69.3 points a game.

UAB will get a short turnaround from the Richmond trip before playing in the Rainbow Classic in Hawaii next Tuesday.
