boating question

- last year was first year winterized the boat
have an inboard 5 litre engine cobra omc

?

just started it up and seems fine...if winterized improperly , lets say water inside cracked the block,,would of i noticed it right from the start with a few minutes of the engine running?

also put green antifreeze inside....are you supposed to take antifeeze out of the block holes...or when you run the engine the antifreeze comes out of the outdrive

We have a 1985 Mastercraft inboard. Yes, you would have noticed it right away. Not sure it would have even started w/ a cracked block. Every fall, I always take both drain plugs out on each side of the block and completely drain the block. Put the drain plugs back in, take the outflow hose off of the water pump, and put two gallons of antifreeze in there, then put the hose back on the water pump. You need to get one of those "fake-a-lake" things that looks like a plunger w/ a garden hose attachment on it so you can drain the antifreeze out before you head to the water. I usually let ours run for a couple of minutes to get everything out. Probably not a good idea to dump all that antifreeze into the lakes.:nono: The antifreeze will come out of the exhaust ports. You could drain it out of the engine block plugs if you want, but a lot easier to flush the whole system and catch it as it comes out the back of the boat. They do make other types of environmentally safe antifreeze that is used in campers, and I think that type is safe to let go into the lakes. Don't ever start these types of boats on land w/o some sort water going into the water intake on the bottom of the boat, or you will burn up the water pump very quick. Don't ask me how I know this.

- yes i used that device that goes on both side of the outdrive by the prop where the holes are and put the garden hose on while engine is running

Hopefully won't sound like a dick, but you have an I/O. A true inboard has the motor in the middle of the boat, w/ a straight shaft that goes through the bottom of the boat. You have a lower unit w/ the water intake on both sides while an inboard has the intake on the bottom of the boat. I think you have the kind that looks like a pair of earmuffs, correct???? Doesn't matter, as you still winterize the same way.

yes its an inborad/outboard with a 5 litre cobra engine...engine is in the middle and the //yes bunny ears....
