"the bunker"
in a time when the martin sheen`s,michael moore`s,susan sarandon`s and sean penn`s rule the day,it did this guy`s heart some good to see a salute to bob hope on his 100th annivarsary.....

a guy who set his self importance on the back burner for over 60 years.....set aside his politics ....and demonstrated his unselfishness and used his celebrity to entertain american troops all over the world during wartime and peacetime alike.....

he didn`t have to do it...he`s an enormously wealthy and famous man.....

but,bob hope came from a different, less spoiled and priveleged time in american history.....from a time when the people felt fortunate to be american....and didn`t take everything for granted....

my uncle was in ww2 and was lucky enough to attend one of bob`s troop`s performances.....you said something bad about bob hope, you might as well take your jacket off and step outside....it meant that much to him....

thank you,bob....for being more concerned for your brothers than for the spotlight......for putting your own personal beliefs, whatever they may have been,on the back burner so you could make it a little better for your countrymen who were in harms way, like it or not.....

for not being so self absorbed.... for not thinking you know what`s right for everybody.....for serving your country in the best way you knew how....for giving back.....

to hear my uncle tell it,thanks bob hope.......a true american hero.....i have to agree...

isn't it great that a guy like that lives to be a hundred and gets to enjoy just about all of it?

Bob Hope uso memory...circa 1970

Bob Hope uso memory...circa 1970

I was at a sh'thole of a base in the Mekong Delta part of a compliment of several hundred Marines-Navy , army special ops, udt, and seals...when rumor had it that one of us lucky
guys would get picked to go to see USO show with Bob Hope and
his bunch I believe Raquel Welch, at a nearby army base....forget the name now...well anyhow, one lucky guy did get to go..He was
in his early 20's and in the Army, promised to report all the details
when he came back....well, he never came back, scuttlebutt was that he saw the show, then proceeded to shoot himself in leg to come back home....we all figured the sight of all that good looking p*ssy was too much for him...

Did see a lesser show of Mobile Honeys in short short white mini's
that choppered into our base....kinda to let us know what we were fighting for....

Forgive the ramblings.....Bob Hope, a true american hero...God Bless...

i always liked bob hope, but a good comedian? nah........stupid jokes and obviously being read off cue-cards. i didn't like his movies either. don't know how he made it like he did.

but, like i said, i did/do like the dude.

my best friend, back in 1978, bet me $100 that bob would die that year. one a of my first serious bets i won :D

thanks bob :)
